Hi
I'm trying to find Arthur Secker born 1820 in Mildenhall, Suffolk, England.
In the 1851 census he is still in England with his wife Maria, i can not find him again until he appears in the 1870 census for Baraboo, Wisconsin USA. In this census he is shown married to Jane.
Other members of his family emigrated to the States in 1852 on the Pelican State from Liverpool to New York. The name has been transcribed as Lecker.
Any help very much appreciated,
Adrian

Wouldn't the 30 yr. old Arthur with the others on the Pelican State in 1852 be him?
Ages were often off a bit on these lists. The Mary listed with him could be wife Maria, as names were sometimes off as well, or that wife could've died before the immigration or arrived separately.
Of course, the "Leckers" on that ship are said to be from Ireland, not England, which seems odd.

Hi Amy M,
Yes that probably is Arthur, must have missed that somehow.
I can only think that a mistake was made with the birth country, Ireland was put down and not England.
Thanks for your help,
Adrian

Looking for Grand-Father Joseph Arthur Gunstone DOB 1862 in Sheffield....Arrived in New York March 24, 1892 with Wife Mary Jane and Children Harry Sydney and Ann E. Gunstone...Can find no record of this arrival in New York but this is the date he gave for it....Please help !!!!Carol

I've had a look on the obvious sites - Ellis Island - Castle Garden Etc..but no luck
Why do you think he came in through New York?
Could he have come through Canada?
Looking at the 1910 census and the birth of Harold (England) and Hilda (New Jersey) the family must have arrived in the 1892-1893 time frame.
But..anyway...you should go to the US Lookup board and start a new message so that people will see it...call it....Looking for Gunstone Passenger List.
Regards
Alice

Maria Secker nee Pearl , her father's (Daniel) sister, also Maria, is my 3x gt grandmother. I have lately been trying to follow Daniel's line down and had surmised that Arthur & Maria had gone abroad. Do you have the burial of Maria? I guess it must be between 1851 and 1870, although there are 2 deaths in Norfolk for a Maria Secker, both 1853.
