You failed to give any dates

I have a Alexander Gray Hendry Milne  b 13th Sept 1904 at Rosebank Cottage Bucksburn,  in my tree.
Could he be related to your sisters Elizabeth and Iabella or their parents John and Elspet.

Further to my last request.
Alexander Gray Hendry Milne married my Aunt Isabella Saddler Dyce.
But more to the point not only were they man and wife, they were also cousins.
Question does the surame of Dyce come up in your tree.

Just registered for the site.  My father, grandfather & great grandfather were all named Alexander Gray Hendry.  My father was born in Bucksburn in Nov 1937 and I believe his father was also born there.  Not sure what the Milne connection is though.

I feel that there could well be a connection here.  It is too much of a coincidence that your father, grandfather and great granfather had the same three christian names, and in the same order as my uncle,  plus they all apear to have come from Bucksburn.

My mothers family name is Dyce and are from Inverurie.  I have visited both these areas of Aberdeen both as a family member to relatoves, but more recently on family research.   They are situated about 5 miles apart and both are little more than large villages today, not really big enough to call towns.  Although Aberdeen has grown in size and taken up the open spaces that were between it and Bucksburn.  Inverurie is still in  a ural setting.  One hundred to two hundred years ago they both would indeed be far smaller than today.

My mothers eldest sister Isabella Saddler Dyce married Alexander Gray Hendy Milne.  But as I said earlier,  this man was also her cousin and also a cousin to my mother and her other siblings.  But I do not know in what connection.

When one considers that scottish tradition is to give a second christian name to a child, generally the name of the mothers family, or even granmothers family for a second or third child as with my mother Nellie Smith Dyce.  Smith was her mothers surname.

I feel that the names of Gray, Hendry, Milne and Dyce are connected.

Sorry , did not realise that you wanted my dads info. He does not know anything of the Milnes. We think alot went to New Zealand , but even family there have drawn a blank. Can you tell me how many Milnes are about as the name consistantly pops up over here. Is it a name only in Aberdeen

Hi

Ref: Milne's being an Aberdeen name. My Gr Gran was a Milne from Peterhead.  I've also noticed a lot of Milne names in the North East of Scotland,  and certainly a lot in the county of Angus.  ;)

Milne in Scotland - a bit like Smith everywhere else. It is an extremely common name, making it a tricky one to research. Or at least that has been my experience. Mine are from the Lonmay area of Aberdeenshire and even narrowing down the area still left me floundering.

Just a bit of probable useless info for you, but Re the name Milne, here in the area where I live Aberdeenshire they tend to drop the N & pronounce this name as Mill.
Being a Yks girl it took me ages to realise.

Joan.

Joan

Just a thought, could the 'n' at the end be soft sounding and trailed off, so appearing to be silent.  :o
