Hi,
Trying to find a couple of marriages with little success...
Firstly James Walsh born c1880 Durham Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England
marrying
Margaret Hanson born c1877 Wallsend, England
James is living at home in Belford Terrace, Tynemouth on the 1901 census
their first child I can find born was Elizabeth Walsh Jan-Mar 1903 Tynemouth 10b 288
The second one I am looking for is James's parents.....
Thomas Walsh born c1843 in Galway, Ireland
marrying
Eleanor Fransway born c1849 in Carseminnoch, Minnigaff, DUMFRIES Scotland
Their first child I can find is Maria Walsh bron c1878 in Sunderland, Durham, England
They are on the 1881 census married and living at 4 Charles Street, Bishopwearmouth, Durham
Eleanor is on the 1871 census as living at 18 Low Row Sunderland
I would appreciate any help finding these marriages
Cheers
Rich

Where have you loked for these marriages? Fransway is such an unusual name that any search of the full GRO index - even allowing for spelling variants - ought to have picked it up. If you look at the top of the Durham board there is a link to local BMDs that might help but the full index is free to search on www.ancestry.co.uk or there are paying sites that have it too.

Rich,
Judging by this thread from a year ago you have indeed searched the complete GRO indexes? http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,173584.msg826273.html#msg826273
No matches show up readily on the Durham/Sunderland/Gateshead BMD sites.

You would think that with Fransway as such a distinctive name it would be easy....unfortunately I have seen some very bizarre transcriptions of this name.....
On one census (1871) the handwriting was that bad that Fransway was transcribed as Frarwley.

Might Thomas and Eleanor have married in Scotland?
-
It could be a possibility although the Fransway's were already living in Northumberland in 1871.
Another possibility I was looking at was if Ellen had married previously but even then I'm struggling to find details.

A search at South Shields registrar's site http://www.southtyneside.info/communitysupport/register/search/IndexSearch.aspxreveals that James Walsh did indeed marry a Margaret Walsh on 24 June 1902. Strong coincidence about the names and the date of the marriage? It might be worth ordering the certificate but asking them only to issue it if the father's names are correct.

I've just checked through my certificates and I had already ordered that one for James Walsh marrying Margaret Walsh in 1902 and the name of the father or the address doesn't tally.
Really don't know where to go from here.... :(
