Hi Suzi,

1st appearance on 1871 Scotland census, at 40 East Clyde Street, Glasgow

Michael Murnin 70 b 1801 CO Dunn, Ireland Tailor
Jane Murnin 50 b 1821 CO Dunn, Ireland Tailor Wife
Francis Pape 30 b 1841 Cornwall Labourer Son in Law
Amander Pape 1mo b 1871 Glasgow
Ann Murnin 24 b 1847 Manchester Occ - Nurse
William Murnin 18 b 1853 Manchester Occ – Picture Frame Maker
Jane Murnin 16 b 1855 Manchester

So looks if they came to Glasgow from Ireland via Manchester
There was a Francis Pape christened in Sithney Cornwall on 24 Jan 1839
No marriage for Francis Pape, if RC could be no record.

There is another Murnin family on 1871 census, at 69 Craigmark, Dalmellington in Ayrshire
Francis (Farncis) Murnin 49 b 1822 Ireland Occ – Miner
Agnes Murnin 44 b 1827 Ireland
Mary? Murnin 22 b 1849 Airdrie, Lanarkshire Labourer Son
Catherine Murnin 15 b 1856 Airdrie, Lanarkshire
Francis Murnin 10 b 1861 Bathgate, Linlithgowshire Scholar
Peter John Murnin 8 b 1863 Bathgate, Linlithgowshire Scholar
Hugh Murnin 6 b 1855 Bathgate, Linlithgowshire
Michael Murnin 1 b 1870 Coatbridge Lanarkshire

These families could be related, but would need access to Irish records I think.

Tom

There was Murnin family in Old Kilpatrick - Nora, Mary and Maureen. Nora, I think was the older member of the family and I'm fairly sure her accent was English!

Hi,
Just came across your message - my Mothers maiden name was Murnin and her family came from Glasgow - originally from County Down, Ireland, by way of Liverpool, Manchester and Burnley.
The bulk of the Info that I have on them is available on my website - www.nelson-elliott.com.
Hope this is of help.
What relation are you to the family.

Regards,

Graeme Elliott.

Thank s for your reply , i reckon in a roundabout way there will be a connection between the two families . I was looking to find a France , Glasgow or Burns surname in there.

Suzi,

The England & Wales 1861 Census has just 11 Murnins in total - Michael, Jane and family in Burnley, and Charles, Selina and two children in Bury.  Let me know if you need the details.

David.

Hi Suzi

I am a Murnin!  :D  Are you too, or are you looking on behalf of someone?   I understand from my dad that his dad came from London, and met and married his mum, Greta in Dumbarton where they settled and raised I think it was 8 children, of which my dad is the eldest.   Dumbarton is just outside Glasgow.   My dad's family are still there;   his siblings also - I think there is only my dad and one brother left now of the boys.   The girls are all still kicking up their heels (the youngest is in her 60s) but their families are scattered throughout the country, even into England, good heavens!   We are a sizeable family, but not many of us are called Murnin left - seems the girls survive better than the boys, so I think although we have Murnin blood, our names have changed through marriage. :-\

Do let me know what your involvement is.

All the best

 in his family.

Hi Suzi

Have a look at gelliott's response above - he has researched his family tree and I think the branches of his roots are what you are looking for as he mentions initially antecedents in Glasgow moving to Lancashire.   He has provided a link to a website he has very cleverly built.  Truly fascinating!

All the best

Hi May,
That's so exciting, it's great to finally meet a Murnin.  My Dad (Brian) has always wondered if he's still got living cousins in the Coatbridge area.
Best Wishes,
Anna

My name is Lyndsey Sakata nee Murray.  I am the cousin of Anna Murray - our fathers are brothers.  My dad Matthew (goes by Alan), is the eldest son of Matthew Murray (Murnin).  We emigrated to Canada in the 1980's.

I did a DNA swab through Ancestry dot com and there is a link to a Doris Murnin.  She may reside in Scotland.  If anyone knows her or any info, I would appreciate it!  I am trying to find her connection to  us.  As Anna mentioned, she has gathered a lot of info and has documents going back on the Murray / Murnin side. I have a few, but not much. Three posts now complete - you can message me directly now. Cheers!
