Title: Help please to find David Church
Post by: Gillyg on Tuesday 24 July 07 00:55 BST (UK)
Hi all - could someone please help to find this missing link.
Sarah Webster had two children, John Church, born 1833, and Sarah Church, born 1835 in Northfleet, Kent.  In the 1841 census Sarah Webster has become Sarah Washer, and is living with her husband John Washer and some more children by him.
I have Sarah Church's marriage certificate, where she names her father as David Church.  The cert. doesn't say he is deceased, but sometimes this is missing from the marriage certs.
John Church, her brother, named his first son John David Church - so David looks  fair bet.
I haven't been able to find a marriage between Sarah Webster and David Church, which I would guess took place around 1832 - nor can I find a death record for David - would be around 1836/7.

Any help greatly appreciated. :)

Hi Gilly

The baptisms of Sarah Ann 1835 and John 1833 are listed on the IGI http://www.familysearch.org and their father is, indeed, listed as David.  The original baptism registers for these parishes in Northfleet and Gravesend can be viewed online at Medway Cityark

Do you know when/where Sarah WEBSTER was born - according to later census perhaps?  I saw her marriage to John WASHER on Medway Cityark (St Peter & St Paul Milton Gravesend) where she is listed as Sarah CHURCH, widow, and see her father is listed as Robert WEBSTER.

Perhaps you can check the Northfleet area burial registers for David CHURCH (say 1835-1837) and for Sarah's marriage to him.

Hi Gillyg

Did you manage to work this out? I have been working on the same Sarah and David Church and the links to the Washers and Websters. If so perhaps we can compare details.

Thanks
John

Thank you all so much for your help and information.  It's such a long time since I originally posted the question.
Although I had found David Church's burial notice - his baptism and marriage to Sarah Webster still elude me.
His daughter, Sarah Ann Church was my great grandmother.  She married Thomas Edgeler, and had 12 children. My grandmother, Eliza Ann Edgeler, was the youngest.  She married John Thomas WEBSTER (a different branch of the Websters).

JOHN, Lord of Kent, I'll send you my email addy in a private message - and we can swap details.  I have a photo of Slaves' Alley, where the Churchs, Washer, Websters and Edgelers all lived - at the bottom of a chalk pit owned by Col.Gladdish (used to be the Overcliffe).
