Title: Key? & colour sergeant royal artillery pre 1827
Post by: Joanna Tolhurst on Tuesday 24 July 07 00:10 BST (UK)
James Graham was described as:
'Key & colour sergeant royal artillery deceased'
on his daughter, Christian Dewar's death certificate  (Glasgow 1871).
I think it reads 'key' but not sure.  James died in 1827 and so far going through the Royal Artillery muster rolls, I have him in the 8th battillion in Malta 1807 - 1809. Christian was born in Malta 1812.
Any clues as to what the key refers to or info regarding colour sergeants would be appreciated.

Jo,

You will probably find that it is Pay & Colour Sergeant.

Steve
