Hello,
Does anyone know which would be the local parish churches in the Thornley area, for us to find records?
I am trying to find the parents of my husband's ancestor, Henry Clement b.1820 in Lumley Durham. He worked as a tailor and married Barbara McCoullough in 1855. We think his parents were Gilbert and Isabella Clement, Gilbert was born around 1786 in Kelloe, Durham and also worked as a tailor.
So far, we have not been able to definitely link Gilbert and Henry,
Any advice most welcome,
Sally Clement

There is only one Clemmet baptism in Kelloe for the time period--and Henry was not that child's name.
The parish church that serves Lumley is Chester le Street. If you look in Chester le Street there are a lot of children (7) named Clemment/Clemmit/Clemmet with Gilbert and Isabella as the parents, including Henry baptised Christmas Eve 1820. Do you have their marriage certificate that names Gilbert as his father? I don't have the occupation of the father in my index - the actual film would have it.

Hi Sally
Unable to help with a church unfortunatly :(
Looks like the marriage might have taken place in Lanchester Register Office..... so U would need to order the cert to be completely sure..

Yes, Sally,
Henry was son of Gilbert and Isabella- I am a direct descendant from Gilbert, Henry . Thomas, Thomas, and Walter, David 19
I haven't researched them for some years, so would need to get up to speed from my notes- this post is just to enter the thread
