Title: Dailly and Loudoun Burials
Post by: honestman on Friday 20 July 07 19:13 BST (UK)
Hi Folks,

I have the book of monumental inscriptions for Old Dailly Churchyard and the old section of New Dailly Cemetery. I also have the Loudoun Parish Burial records for 1811 - 1857.

If anyone would like anything looked up just give me a shout.

Hi Stephen,

Are there any Woodburns in the Loudon Parish Burial Records? I do not have any specific people in mind, but my ancestors were mostly Alexander or William.

Many thanks,

Ian

Hi

There are loads of Woodburns listed in the Loudoun Burial Register, do you want a list of them all or just the names you mention?

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

I hesitate to put you to so much work but a list of all of them might help me untangle some branches.

Thank you very much.

Ian

PS I am leaving today on two weeks vacation so there is no rush - in this game there never is.

Hello
I would be interested if there are any Russells, Hendersons or Langs in Dailly Burial Ground.

Robert Lang 1811- after 1848 but before 1851.
Sarah Russell, his wife, (1817-1902)
Andrew Lang, his son, (1839-1862)

Andrew Russell(1782-1868)
Margaret Henderson (1797-1879)
Thanks
Lesley

Hi Lysley,

Sorry there are no Russells or Langs in the list of MIs I have.
There is 1 Henderson but is an Annie Henderson who died in 1917.

The MIS I have are Old Dailly churchyard and new Dailly Cemetery (old section)

The 1811-1857 OPR burials records were transcribed by Claude Wrathall of the LDS who very kindly gave a copy of his work to the Friends of Loudoun Kirk.   These transcribed records are on the Loudoun Kirk wiki site.  Also on the site are many transcribed BMD's for the Loudoun/Galston parishes - and much more information which may be of interest to researchers.  http://loudounkirk.wetpaint.com

Hello Stephen,
What a kind offer. Are you still doing look ups? It is mentioned that a cd is available , can you advise how to purchase a copy?
If your still taking queries do you have any records of the following:

Stewart Davidson 1846-1903 Dailly
Janet (Gemmell) Davidson 1845-1927 Dailly
Agnes P. (Davidson) Rennie  1867-1948 Dailly
Agnes Paterson b. 1821
James Paterson b. 1797 est...father of Agnes
Anne Niven 1797 - 1876 Dailly
Robert Niven m. 1785 Dailly, death unknown Dailly
Barnard Haggarty 1805-1877 Dailly
I have so many more so perhaps instructions on purchasing cd's would be beneficial.

celia

Hi Stephen,
Thank you for your response, I await any details you may find and info on the cd's that I may purchase. Are you from Dailly? My grandmother was Janet Rennie Hume who lived on Woodside for many years just up from the Co-op if it's still there. My mother was raised in Girvan. Janet Rennie moved to Girvan in her 90's to McConnell Rd. regards celia

Hi Stephen,

I'm looking for a burial in either Dailly or Old Dailly for Thomas Wright. He was still on the census in 1851 at 85 living in Dailly. His wife's name was Agnes Davidson.

Thank you for any help,
Glen

Here is a belated reply to hood66:

John,
I'm not sure where Dailly is, but I do have a book of pre-1855 MIs for Kilmarnock and Loudon District, and there are Hoods registered in  Kilmarnock, Laigh Kirk Churchyard; Kilamarnock, St. Andrews Churchyard; Galston Cemetery; Old Loudon Kirk Churchyard; and Loudon, New Milns Churchyard.
The last mentioned is the family of Robert Hood & Agnes M. Young.

Ian

Dailly is near Maybole in South Ayrshire.   The Loudoun Kirk is nr Galston, East Ayrshire and there is a burial for Hood, connected to the name Watt.  I can give you a full inscription and photograph of the memorial stone  if this is who you are looking for.

Hi Stephen,

If your offer still stands, could you have a look for me for Janet Robertson, maiden name Speir or Spear, I believe died about 1807 in Dailly.  Any other Speir/s/Spear/s Robertson/Robisson would be very welcome!

Many thanks in advance,  Yvonne

Hello Stephen

I wonder if you would be so kind as to look up a burial on your Dailly and Loundoun list for me.  I am looking for the burial place of  a brother of my Grandfather who died on 21.1.1906 aged only 2 months.  He died on the Ailsa Craig.  His name was Alexander Gregor Taylor.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Stephen

I would be grateful if you'd check the Dailly monumental inscriptions for the grave of John Johnston, died around 1812. We know he was an elder of Dailly parish, so I presume he and his two wives were buried there.
Any details would be most gratefully received!

Charles

Hi Junev,
Thanks for doing those lookups on the Curries. The people you found are not in my direct line but I bet they will fit in somewhere as I  continue my research. The name James occurs in every family of every generation. There are some Davids as well. I wonder if there are any Curries in the Loudoun cemeteries. Charles and Helen Currie died in Loudoun in 1881 and 1875 respectively. Are Dailly and Loudoun very far apart?
Kindest regards,
Nan

Hi Nan,
There is a MI at Kaimshill Cemetery, Riccarton that might be your family. There are many names listed, not all of whom appear to be buried in that cemetery. I find the abbreviations in the book a bit difficult to follow but I will quote the part that I think might be of interest to you and, if it is your family, I will try harder to decipher it.

"Charles C died 24, 11, 1922 at 85 years  mother Helen Gebbie died 16, 3, 1875 at 74 years; father Charles Currie, Blacksmith,  died 8, 3, 1881 at 79 years, interred in Galston cemetery --- then   mo-in-law Margaret Leggat and fa-in-law George Brown, gardener -- interred Riccarton Churchyard"

Let me know and I will look into it further.

Ian

Hello Ian,
Yes that is my family's MI in Riccarton. I can't believe that I failed to transfer Charles Sr's burial place to my records. Apologies to Junev, you Ian and maybe others for having you look up information that I had (but had forgotten).
Kind regards, Nan

I have downloaded a death certificate for someone who may be my GGGG grandfather. Robert Scott died 17 May 1856 in Wilson Stret Girvan and is listed as a widower. My Robert Scott was married to Jean/Jane Garey according to their daughter's death certificate. The death certificate states that he was buried in Dailly Churchard. Is there any record of an MI transcription or of any lair information?

Thank you

Hello!

I just came across this post and would be so grateful if you could look up the last name Strain. There are probably a lot of them! There should be a John, Selina, Robert, and maybe Elizabeth, but there could be others. I hope you're still doing this; I've just started searching.

Thank you!
