Hello, I wonder if anyone could see through this fog with me.
My friend, Joanne had a Grandmother, named Alice Battalott. We know she came over to UK 1940. and died a few years later. she was married to A welshman called Charles Henry Bishop, who happened to be in the Merchant Navy.
My point is this, The name given for Grandma sounds a little odd. Especially as her daughter was called Angeline, who called her daughter, Joanne Lobello. Call me suspious but, am I the only one that thinks Grandma was Italian, who may have fled Italy as the War started, and not Maltese.
Do let me know if the surname, Battalott, that I can find no refernce to has been misspelt.
I would be so grateful for any help on this one.

Hello again, I meant to inform you that the family had always thought that Grandma Battalott was from Malta. No one really knew where she orignated from.
There must be some refernce to this woman, somewhere.
Again, many thanks

Have you tried the overseas marriage indexes (indexes are on findmypast) - if you haven't be able to find her marriage in the UK, it might be there.
Surname, if Italian, could be Battilotti or something similar?

You could have a look at www.SearchMalta.com
which has a list of Maltese surnames. Some Maltese surnames did originate from Italy as did mine. Good luck.
