Hi there,
Just a quick message wondering if anyone an help with any info on this family ?
James Wood of Alveley Shropshire married Emma. They seem to change their name to Wood -Williams sometime during the 1890's ?? I am looking for info on their daughter Minnie born Walmer Kent 1874. ( looking for name of husband, children etc) but finding it quite hard.
Minnie married either a man named Kitchen or Coombe in the Birmingham area around 1896.
Ring any bells with anyone. Any help or advice much appreciated. :) :) :) :)

This Wood-Williams thing is a strange one, isn't it, Margaret? James' parents were Thomas and Matilda Williams of Alveley, Matilda being the daughter of David Williams and Hannah Wood bpt. 21 Sept 1764, daughter of my 3 x Alveley great grandparents William Wood and Hannah Rogers (m. 1759 Alveley). I've never understood why the surname suddenly included the grandmother' maiden surname with a hyphen, and then dropped the Williams element to become just Wood in the 1881 and 1891 censuses for Minnie! James Williams' (or Williams-Wood's) wife was Emma Lawley, daughter of Samuel Lawley of Bayton, Worcs and Charlotte Tart of Alveley. Yes, I'd love to know what happened to Minnie and her descendants.
Anyone interested in my family, the Woods of Alveley, and connecting families may like to visit my website, "The Wood family of Alveley" on Tribal Pages.

Minnie is my Great Grandmother and married my Great Grandfather Albert Arthur Kitchen (known as Arthur). He was a wood carver. They lived in Leicester at the 1901 census (4 Longcliffe Road) and then moved to Whissendine (Rutland), living at Mount Pleasant on the Oakham Road with 5 children by the 1911 census. Arthur's Father was Eli Kitchen, who owned Whissendine Mill. They moved to Pear Tree Farm, Broadholme, Saxilby sometime during the First World War so he could work at the Clayton & Shuttleworth Works in Lincoln on Sopwith Camel planes. One of Minnie's sons (Hubert) was my Grandfather.
