Title: research exchange
Post by: Sordibub on Friday 13 July 07 00:53 BST (UK)
Hi
I live in Wexford and have access to pre 1880 Wexford parish records. I also have access to the 1901 & 1911 census for Wexford and experience of genealogy.

I am willing to help someone with their research in exchange for assistance with mine. I have done this before and it has proved very mutually beneficial.

I am interested in the Kew Archives in Richmond, Uk, specifically records regarding mariners and possibly one more record in a different series.

For anyone in the London area, who thinks this may be useful, please drop me a line and we can discuss further (rachelATxaikuDOTcom).

Good morning Sordibub

Unfortunately, I am not in a position to assist you with Kew research as I am in Brisbane Australia.

But, I am willing to assist in anything Australian.....

.............
My sphere of interest is in my Great GGrandparents whom I believe to be -
Richard Henry EDMONDS b c1790 and
Catherine FURLONG b 5 April 1793
in Wexford RC

I would like to learn of their marriage records, said to be in Wexford.
I would also like information on the birth of Catherine FURLONG
[availability of a Birth Certificate etc.]

One of their children was George Gilbert EDMONDS  born between 1825 and 1833 [possibly 1828].
He came to Australia about 1855 where he married in 1857.  George Gilbert EDMONDS is buried near me [unfortunately, his Death Certificate is not of assistance] in Brisbane.

I would like to know the marriage date in Wexford RC of Richard Henry EDMONDS and Catherine FURLONG [d of James FURLONG]

Possible siblings of George Gilbert EDMONDS are John b c1825 and William EDMONDS b 9 August 1829 Wexford:  He emigrated to USA c1850.

Hope you do not think that I am presumptuous in sending this information, but, I would really like to find out a little bit more of my ancestry.

Every small snippet of information will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Harold

Nice to hear from you.

Do you have any idea where in Wexford your people came from? Unfortunately this question is key to a successful outcome.

Civil Registration (catholic) survives from 1864. Parish records do pre-date 1864 but their age depends on parish. There is also no central database for searching these parish records so you need to know which parish to search.

Most parishes in Wexford do not have records which go back as far as 1700's. It is therefore unlikely that, even if you can identify the parish of your ancestors, the baptism and marriage records from 1700's still survive.

Take a look at this website (if you don't know it already). It shows the oldest surviving records by parish. You need to click on Wexford in the map and then on your chosen district within Wexford to find mention of the oldest surviving records. If memory serves, Wexford Town, Ross & Kilmore are about the only places with records back to 1700's.

Hello Rachel

I believe that my forebears came from Wexford Town or its environs.

Richard Henry EDMONDS b 1790-1805 married Catherine FURLONG b 5 April 1793.  She was the daughter of James FURLONG, an Apothecary in Main Street Wexford.

My GgGrandfather, George Gilbert EDMONDS, is buried near to me:  On his Marriage Certificate, Richard Henry EDMONDS was stated to be a "Chemist"!
George Gilbert EDMONDS was married in Sydney Australia in 1857.

Another possible family member was William EDMONDS [brother or cousin] born August 1829.  He went to America about 1850 and was said to have 4 brothers and a sister.

I am interested in ANY EDMONDS Family Members born in Wexford [possibly R/C] between 1820 and 1833!

Also, I would like to discover when Richard Henry EDMONDS died and where he was buried.

This may be a Red Herring, but in the past I have noted some reference to FURLONGs in Rathangan:

Also, in Griffiths Valuation.1853
Edmonds   Richard   Redmondstown, Rathaspick.
Edmonds   Thomas   Rathaspick
Edmonds   Thomas   Scoughmolin, Rathaspick.
Edmonds   William   Cribstown, Rathaspick

[I do not know if these members are related but would like their forebears checked, if possible.]

Can you assist me in any way?

With thanks ......

EDO

Hi Julie

Sorry I missed your message.

Do you have any more information about your Bolgers? When did they leave Ireland? What documents and information do you have, marriage record perhaps?

I don't think you can help me as I am interested in information in mariner information in the Kew National Archives.

However, if you send me through whatever info you have, I will try to help. You can send a private message if you like.
Best wishes

Rachel

Father and Son where Coopers by trade and Bernard left about 1831 ish to Liverpool ,England(dont know if Father came with him) he married Catherine Roebuck in  March 1/4 1841 in Liverpool. There are three generations of Cousins all trying to find out more info about his birth, siblings etc so if you could find anything you would be doing us a huge, huge favour.

Hi Julie

I've had a read of your other posts. Unfortunately it would be hard to trace your Bernard Bolger as you do not know exactly where he came from. There may have been coopers in many places.

Two questions: Was your Bernard catholic? What names did he give to his children? Sometimes the naming pattern of children can give clues to the grandparents' names - but not so predictably in Wexford genealogy.

I will have a look in the Wexford Town parish records for Bernard's birth between about 1805 and 1825. I will do this in the next couple of weeks as I have a few things on at the moment. Two things to bear in mind...

1) We are looking for the birth of Bernard or Brian to James Bolger. Bernard was often a synonym for Brian.
2) If you check the on-line info regarding what parish records have survived, it will tell you that the Wexford Town baptismal records from Aug 1787 - Jun 1815 are missing. This is not true. The originals are available at Rowe Street Church in Wexford Town. In the 1960's they microfiched all known parish records for the National Archive but they overlooked the 1787-1815 Wex Town Baptismal Book. I will view the original records.

If you don't hear from me in the next 3 weeks, give me a shout at rachel[at]xaiku.com  (*)

Sordibub,

I cannot help you on Kew records, because I live in Wexford aswell as yourself.

Can I suggest also posting a messago on the forums at "The Great War Forum".  The chaps there regurlarly visit the NA in Kew and you may be able to have some success there !

Can I ask you for your help in searching for my Great Grandmother "Elizabeth Sloane" in your parish records.

I am aware that Sloane is a very unusual name in Wexford, however she gives her place of birth on the 1901 Census as Wexford.

Her details are as follows

Elizabeth Sloane
Born: abt 1858
Place: Wexford
Marriage:  abt 1895 (Spouse John Graham)
Religion: Church of Ireland

I dont know where in Wexfor she was from in Wexford but I have checked Griffiths and there are onlyh 2 entrys for Sloanes in the whole of Wexford

Sloane Mary Town of Wexford St. Iberius Wexford
Sloane James Rathnure Rossdroit Wexford

Is it possible for you to check those parishes for me for a bith of Elizabeth Sloane.

It would be much appreciated.

Hello Beemack

I seem to have missed your post first time round so apologies for that. Thank you for the tip-off regarding "The Great War Forum".

I have limited access to Church of Ireland records. I can access the Wexford Town ones, however, so in the New Year I will have a look for the birth of your Elizabeth Sloane in Wexford Town.

Can you please remind me around the end of the first week in January if you have not heard back from me by then (there are two other individuals befor eyou in the queue).

Best wishes

Rachel

Hello Beemack

I've just re-read your post and noticed that you are in Wexford yourself.

If you are in Wexford you can visit the Public Library in Redmond Square and look up the Wexford Town C of I records yourself. This is what I would do. You will need to phone to book a microfiche reader beforehand.

Good luck in your research

Wexford Library has on microfilm or microfiche...

4 or 5 sets of Wexford C of I parish records (one of which is Wexford Town).
All Wexford catholic parish records.
Wexford 1901 & 1911 census
Enniscorthy 1861 census
Griffith Valuation for the whole country but not the corresponding maps
Tithe Applotment for the whole country
Various Wexford papers, the oldest of which is Finn's Leinster Journal
Some set of old maps
Surviving burial extracts from old Wexford Town cemeteries (but not Crosstown)

Good luck with your research

Would you please have any information on Pte N Doyle  Royal Irish regiment who is buried in an unmarked grave in Skreen Cemetery. He died in ww1 and is not mentioned in any other reference not even where he lived. Would he be in the 1911 census? May I please ask that you look for me and I am happy to help you with my war dead dead databases.
 Kind regards.

Hi Enfield

Unfortunately I have not been able to get around to looking up any Wexford Cenus in the last couple of months due to family commitments, but when I get around to it again, I will certainly look at the 1911 Census for Screen for you.

Sorry about that

Hi

I am struggling with knowing where to look for information on magistrates records.  I will explain  - my dad was born in enniscorthy in 1932 and the family moved to Slaney St and then William St in Wexford Town The name of course would be Murphy.  My dad was the youngest of 9 .  The story goes he was sent away for 7 years for stealing he must have been 12 or 14 when that happened - there must be a record of that somewhere but who do I ask  (we also heard the crime was damage on the railway station) all seems very harsh but I guess it reflects the times.  My dad died 6 years ago and never spoke of it

I am sorry I am not sure what I can help you with in exchange I live in Wiltshire.

I think I just need a point in the right direction
