Please be advised that there is a brand new Kent wide war memorial website now online here -
http://www.kentfallen.com/
I have tried to get in touch with "Casalguidi" the moderator without any success. There doesn't seem to be any way of contacting him.
The new website is linked closely to this website (already listed on the links pages) - http://www.ashfordsfallen.com/
Enjoy...

Hi Kentfallen
Welcome to Rootschat
Thanks for the link. It is asking for a username & password - do visitors need to register?

Don't quite understand what the problem is! I had the same message coming up!
I have had a word with my webhost 1&1 and the problem seems to be fixed now.
You will see that this site is by far the largest and most comprehensive website regarding Kent War Memorials and the like. Literally thousands of A4 pages and reports in PDF format.
We are the same people for ashfordsfallen.com and you will see that the two look the same.
It would be most helpful if you could place a link in your links pages alongside ashfordfallen.
If you have a question or need any assistance, you can send me a personal message
Wishing you all the very best.

Sorry, still being asked for a password :(

Seems okay at the moment!
I don't understand what the problem can be, never come across anything like this before!
Here is the link again - http://www.kentfallen.com
Enjoy....
-
Okay now :)
-
Glad to see you have finally been able to have a look John.
I was rather concerned to hear of the problems accessing the site online. I have no idea what the problem was!
Hopefully the "Powers to Be" will now be able to appraise the site and finally place in on the Kent Military Resources Link?
Anyone wanting copies of any photo(s) on the site can send me a personal message and I will be delighted to send you large uncompressed versions.
Best Wishes to all family historians.

Hi Neil,
There certainly is a lot of good work here and must have taken a lot of time and effort, not to mention expense ;)
I have linked to it from my lil' ol website :D
John

Yes indeed John, it has taken 3 military historians about 4 years to compile. Are you local John? Had a look at your own effort - very interesting and easy to navigate. Too many confusing websites out there... ha ha.
This site (Rootschat) is brilliant too - fantastic to see people helping eachother like this... I didn't realise how close "you lot" stick together... I am begining to understand why the National Archives is always so full with family historians... ha ha.
I thought I might take this oppertunity to ask for a volunteer -
If you have a look at our website, you will see that we have submitted 18 cases to the Ministry of Defence for belated commemoration. So far we have had 11 approved which means that these brave men (who gave their lives for their country) will now have their names recorded as casualties of war and will all get new CWGC war graves.
We are presently working on an additional 30 or so cases which we hope to make cases for soon. All these names have been lifted off civic Kent War Memorials. We have been unable to locate them on the CWGC.
We want to recruit a "family historian" - someone who is interested in helping these men get the tribute they deserve. We are military historians not family historians. Often we struggle tracing births, deaths and marriages etc... It would greatly assist us if we could find someone who is prepared to help us out on a voluntary basis. All costs will be defrayed by us...
Probably the best thing to do in the first instance is have a look at our work on Ashfordfallen and Kentfallen.
If anyone is interested in helping these men get war graves then please send me a personal message
Best Wishes
Neil

Hi Neil
Why not post your queries here on Rootschat (the relevent county or armed forces boards) - that's exactly the type of thing the members love to do and have access to all sorts of resources (excepting actual birth, marriage, death certificates of course) ;D
Rootschat is completely free and you'd perhaps just need to verify some things with GRO certificates which you could puchase online.
I have updated the link now that it seems to be working ok http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,2274.0.html

Kentfallen.com seeks good quality websites to link with. If you want us to link your own site then send a message.
Anyone else want to comment on site content?
Death threats welcomed!!!!!!!

I'm still getting the 'not authorised' page after I don't add a password. :(
I thought it might be because I use Firefox, but it's happening on IE too.
-
Iam getting the same Bagpuss. I even tried going in through the Ashford site but still get the same.
Mariac
-
Okay now :)
But not today I am afraid :(
-
I am sorry to say I had no luck getting through either.
-
I have tried to look too - password needed.
Pity

I initially had no trouble getting in on the 12th July, I even saved it to my favourites and went back several times in the following days, but I too am now getting the request for password.

I've tried intermittently - to see if the request for a password was just a glitch- but it's not having any. Keeps asking for password & I haven't been able to fiddle it. Pity, I've got plenty to look up

I have been in touch with webhosts - 1%1 and they have admitted the problem is theirs! Within a few minutes the problem was rectified. I will contact the "head shed" on Monday to request some money back or a period of free hosting. This has caused us to lose many hundreds of potential visitors and we are not at all happy...
We welcome and comments or suggestions from users out there.
Sorry for you have experienced these access problems....

All AOK for me now.
It is a great site.

Anyone had a problem accessing the site lately?
Neil

The problems that some experienced in July when attempting to access http://www.kentfallen.com has now ended.
We have now added a full and comprehensive search facility to the site which should save quite a lot of time searching for names ect...
As ever, we welcome any comment from it's users (positive or otherwise)...
-
Catherine,
Sorry you had problems, try now it should be okay...
Regards

You are doing a grand job there Neil, have already found a couple of memorials that I had no idea existed, in spite of them being in my home town!
Thanks to you and your colleagues, there has obviously been a few hours hard work already ;D

I had the same problems as others some time ago, but now it's working just fine.

I do not know how I found this thread but am delighted to have found war memorial with grandfather's name on it. It has long been my intention to photo same and send in details to some website as it seemed to be missing. I can now also correct the details as they had trouble making sense of inscription which is sadly hard to read.
I shall now resolve to visit same with small pot of paint(?). Another great personal success for me thanks to Rootschat!

Thanks for keeping Kentfallen on our message board for newcomers. Great site and I have had no problem accessing. I would like to have my grandfather's details corrected though. It is some months since I wrote with his biography. He is on Westgate memorial in Thanet district and down on your list as WW2 when he was WW1. I will send you a PM with his details again,
Anne

Having only last week joined and posted on Rootschat, has resulted in additional numerous requests for information. Unfortunately due to my constraints of time, including spending in excess of 80 hours a week in preparation for www.kentfallen.com going on line last year, and every week since then, it is unfortunately not possible for us to carry out additional individual research for people. It was noticed that amongst those requesting specific information, 22 'answers' were already on www.kentfallen.com. I hope that this post does not cause offence, but it seemed a quick way to inform people, as we had noticed that a substantial number of hits on www.kentfallen.com have been via Rootschat, as have many kind comments.
Kindest regards to all
kentfallen1.

Backchat,
We have now changed our Webhost from 1&1 to Webhosts UK. The service seems to have improved no end. If you experience any problem accessing the website here - http:/www.kentfallen.com please tell us.
Best Regards to you all.
-
We have been advised by a few of you out there that some have been experiencing problems logging on to KENTFALLEN. Well we have taken your advice and changed our webhosts.
The website will be completely updated in the next few weeks. Our pages are getting a complete modern look. Navigation should be much easier too.
Please advise us if you experience any problems.

I just wanted to say how pleased we are with this excellent forum. Every week we get about 200 links from this entry. At the moment we are regularly getting between 12,000 and 15,000 unique visitors every month.
Casagaldi,
Did you realise that an awful lot of links on the Kent military websites are out of date and NOT working? Whoever is responsible for this page should do some weeding and get rid of these out of date links?
