Worldwide collection of Gellatly, Galletly, and the 100+ variants.
Lots of data allready collected, although a lot more still to do.
Pleased to hear from anyone with a connection, and can hopefully help to fill in gaps, connections etc.
Also obviously pleased to receive any info on any family of these names.

Hi
Just surfing the site and the name jumped out at me. My son-in-law's mother's maiden name is Galletly. I have very little on the family as I've not got enough time to do my own properly. Nevertheless I'm interested.
I'll give you what I have and see if it fits in with anything you know.
John Edmund Galletly (b.1868 d.1943) was a migrant to Australia reputedly from Scotland. His father was possibly Peter.
His son George Harold was born in Melbourne in 1906 and his daughter Valda (son-in-law's mother) was born in 1934.
That is all I have
Cheers

Hi Bob
I have all scottish births, but no John in 1868 to a Peter, or within 5 years. There is a death of a John in 1868 (aged 7) to a Peter/Catherine McIntee.
2 births in 1868 - but neither fit with your details.
There is however a John Edmund (his father was Edmund) m Catherine Kirkwood and they had various children 1850 to 1871, but have no John noted.
Do you have any other details at all?

Hi Mike
Thanks for your reply.
No, I have no other info. Just had a thought though, what if John Edmund was born in OZ and it was his father Peter who migrated. I may have to try and get people to try and remember a few more details.

Hi Mike
Using holiday Monday to catch up with a couple of posts.
There are 31 listings for Galletly in New Zealand White Pages

There is a Galletly family in my locality I'm slightly aquainted with..my brother went to school with him, I went to school with his wife's family and my children went to school with their children.
I have saved a newspaper supplement from January 2008 with an article on a Professor Duncan Galletly I would be happy to post to you if you are interested. Pm with an address to send to.

Hi Mike
Just want to update the info from my original post in August 2007.
John Edmund Galletly turns out to be John EDWIN and he was born in OZ. However his father Peter was the migrant, don't know when and which ship yet but he was born in 1838 in Perth and I think his parents were John Galletly & Ann Halley.
Cheers

Hi
I have only just seen this.
My Great Grandmother was Annie Gellatley/Gellatly
Looking at my records on another site (but not at any certificates as we have just emigrated and our container has not yet been unpacked!) I seem to be certain of her year of birth: 1868, although I can't recall seeing anything which would give me that!
And her marriage to James Edward Rands (b. Clerkenwell, Middx) on 20/08/1888
With the vague nature of my information I hardly dare ask if you have any additional info at all???

I went to school with a David Galletly in the '70s in Buckinghamshire. I can drop him a message if you are interested.

Hi
I have a relative Clarinda Gellatley born about 1826 who married Johnston Morton in Clonmel in 1848, they eventually had one son in 1862, George Morton in Poulton cum Secombe, Cheshire, England, she was quite old for childbirth and may have had others before who may not have survived. If you have any info which may help I would appreciate it greatly as the irish records are patchy
-
Hi, Its been an age since I was able to access Rootschat, I have been given some information regarding my Great Grand Father JOHNSTON MORTON and his marriage to a woman who has been recorded as CLARINDA GELLATELY. The baptism of a son JOHN in June 1855 at Ss Peter and Paul, Clonmel, however the names are recorded as JOHNSON MORTON and CLARA GREATLY, too close to be incorrect.
May be of help.

My great-great-great-grandparents David Gellatly and Catherine Tarvit were married in 1799 at Inchture, Perthshire. Catherine was from my native village of Cellardyke in Fife, and David became a fisherman there.
Catherine's sister Elspeth Tarvit married George Gellatly at Inchture in 1796 and it seems likely that David and George were themselves related, but I can't prove it.
For various reasons, I think David Gellatly was the David born in 1777 at Moneydie, Perthshire, to Patrick or Peter Gellatly and Jean McRobie (her name is spelt Crobie on their headstone in Moneydie churchyard).
I wrote an article about my Gellatly researches, called "In Search of Gellatlys", back in the 1980s, and it was published in The Scottish Genealogist.
If anyone reading this thinks they are descended from that David Gellatly born in 1777, and he had nothing to do with Cellardyke, I would be very interested to hear from you! I'm not convinced I'm right about his parentage and have an open mind.

I have a relative Clarinda Gallatley married to my Great Great Grand Father Johnston Morton, on 12 September 1848 in Clonmel, Tipperary, whose father was Peter Gallatley a Distiller. There is one prominent distillery near Clonmel, Marlfield Distillery which may have been somewhere he was employed. I have no information further about Peter Gallatley, do you?
Clarinda bore 2 sons to Johnston Morton, John Morton 1855 in Clonmel, Ireland and George Morton 1861 in Poulton-Cum-Secombe, (Near Birkenhead) Cheshire, she died in Liverpool in 1880, separated from Johnston but he was by her side when she died. If you have any information on Peter Gallatley I would be grateful. Thnx

They don't sound like any relation to the Scottish Gellatlys/Galletlys.
