I have just received the birth certificate for my gr grandmother and found that her mothers name was Amy Augusta Norris.
I have found Amy in the census' under the name of Amy or Augusta or A.A. On one of the census it says she was born in Swindon but on 2 others it says she was born in Yeovil. I think it was probably Yeovil as that is where her first child was born as well. She married George Henry Stratford who was born and bred in Wroughton. I have found her death but I can't find a marriage or birth for her. I would be grateful of any help/suggestions.
thank you
Lisa

Do you have any dates?
I have just found my Gt Gt Grandfathers ( Andrew Norris )death in Swindon 1916 but he started off in Islip, Oxfordshire.
Now have been looking at a Henry Norris in St George, Glouc's 1861 aged 68.
Norris's are hard to follow. :)

Hi Lesanne,
She was born c1855 and her first child Charley was born in Yeovil c1877, so presumed marriage was around then.
I couldn't find anything for Charley either!
thanks

I've had a look through the IGI.
There is a possible...
Augusta Maria Hannah Norris bpt, 28 Oct 1855 Swindon.
d/o John Dean Norris and Hannah.
Batch No C172601.
It might be worth looking for her on 1861 census if only to rule her out.
But the names are fairly uncommon, so a possible family link.

Hi
George Henry Stratford was only 2 years old on the 1861 census and 12 on the 1871. I am wondering whether Charley was Amy's son born before her marriage given that both birthplaces are Yeovil
1861 for Wroughton - all b Wroughton
George Stratford 23 stone mason
Hannah 22
Mary 4
George Henry 2
Alfred 1
Living next door to them were as follows:
Richard Stratford 30 stone mason b Wroughton
Rebecca 29 b Lambourn Berkshire
Ann Stratford grandmother 83 b Wilts

There is an Augusta M (A/E) Norris on the 1871 aged 17 b Yeovil and working as a servant in Yeovil
The only Amy Norris I can find on the 1861 was b Ilminster - parents John & Susanna. There is no Augusta Norris in 1861

Hello Carole, Thinking along those lines too.
Did she have another marriage?
Lisa, Does it give any former or previous name 's for mother, on the cert?
Augusta Norris Dec 1854 Wheatenhurst 6a 237.
Ann Louisa NURSE? 1876 Wheatenhurst + Giles Carter ROWLES ?
Hmmm... something with Stroud.. Stratford / Rowles...

Hi Carole and Lesanne,
thanks for your replies.
I wondered if Amy was married before too or maybe an illigitimate son?
George Henry was born in Wroughton and from the census' he always lived there.
The certificate doesn't give any other name for Amy.
I have just had a quick look for Charley Norris b c1877 Yeovil but couldn't find anything.
