I need a birth certificate for a Charles Baker, but not for 1860. Mine was born circa 1815. He did live in Middlesex before emigrating in 1859 to New Zealand with his wife and family. In the 1851 England census he, and his family were in Castle Lane, Westminster. He was probably born elsewhere. His wife, Martha Goater, was born in Bath, Somerset, England.

With so many Charles Baker's he is hard to trace. His death certificate in New Zealand does not give me any clues. He was 49 yrs and drowned 1865, so born 1815 or 1816.

His marriage to Martha was 13 Dec 1835, St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol, Gloucestershire.

Hi,

A birth certificate is not available before 1837 which is the year civil registration began.  Before that date you would need to look at parish records.  According to the 1851 census Charles Baker was also born in Bath, Somerset the same as his wife.  Sorry I can't help you further.

Cheers
