Hi There!   :)

A long shot, but here goes!   ::)

Can any one find me anything on a William Nixon Chapman who apparently went from England to New Zealand c.1860 to join the Melitia!

He was born c.1837 in Middlesex Stepney London possible parents Robert and Ann Chapman.
Siblings Letitia, George and Ann.

No idea if he was married before or after arrival in New Zealand at this stage? ???

thanks again

Can tell you that a William Nixon Chapman married a Louisa Theresa Moore in 1863 and also an Eliza Pascoe in 1875. Might be the same groom in each case. There is also a 1901 marriage between Mary Crombie Wilson and a William Nixon Chapman.

Christchurch Archives hold a probate for a William Nixon Chapman dated 1876 but he is not mentioned in the Christchurch City Cemeteries Database.

Hello Rachel,

Your post is the first time I have heard of Willian Nixon Chapman committing suicide in 1876 from the boat he was captaining.  Would you have anymore details on him, Louisa & his children please as I am connected to both.
Any stories at all about the family would be greatly appreciated as I have started to write my family history being in my latter years.

Thankyou.

Hi Jennirosa,

I haven't been able to find any record of him regarding the Militia. Do you happen to know which unit he might have served in, or if he was present at any battles?

Hi tiffaney
William married twice - firstHe had six children with Louisa, and after she died in 1875 he married a womanEliza Pascoe with whom he had a son.  He died when that son was 1 month old.  I see you are in NZ like me, if you search his name on Papers past you will rind records of his death etc.
I'm happy to email you directly with more family info if you can provide an email address.  Which part of the line do you descend from?

Regards
Rachel

the William Nixon CHAPMAN who married in 1901 is the son of William Nixon CHAPMAN and Eliza PASCOE.  And yes William Nixon Chapman (Senior) did marry both women.

My husband is a descendant of William Nixon Chapman and we are interested to find out any information on other siblings and their descendants. Also do you have any information on Robert Chapman and his wife Anne Nixon, William Nixon's parents from Middlesex.
