I am looking for the occupants of two houses in Maddox street, Westminster in the 1861 census.
The first is no. 24, occupant of the name anton armon/oberdries b. c1840.
The second is no. 18, occupant kate conway/hartley b. c1843.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Toby.

Hi Toby
18 Maddox Street
Catherine Conway widow 40 is a servant, domestic cook b Ireland. I need some time to decipher the town! Do you want the other occupants?
I can't see the name anton armon/oberdries at no 24 but the writing is really bad.
I have to go out now but the refs are RG9 42 f45 and 46 if someone else wants to have a look.
Otherwise I will get back to you later today.

Thank you Alison and Meliora - I thought someone would help out on this. Wasn't the writing awful!

yes, Barbara, they do give us a headache sometimes, the only way I could read who they were was to do a bit of jiggery pokery calling up the whole list of names on the page & marrying the names up with those corresponding on the image. Took a bit of time but I thnk it is worth doing instead of spending ages trying to decipher the writing.
All in a good cause. ;D ;D

Thanks everyone for your replies and hard work. My catherine would have been about 18 at the time so I dont think that can be her, but it may be her mother. I only know these were their listed addresses at the time of their marriage in 1862, so it was a bit of a shot in the dark. It is interesting that all of the occupants of no. 24 have names of german origin, as that is where anton was born.
Thanks again, Toby.
