Well...I may be able to give you some more int on the photo...
As he won a cup for cooking...and looking at the group in No1s (patrol dress) I would say he was the Officers Mess Steward. Until the privatisation of the mess servants, the officers mess was run by a Sgt with a Cpl (or L/Cpl) and some private soldiers.
The two chaps at the rear in either mess dress or evening wear (the front row heads obscure any NCO rank would appear to confirm this idea...
To my regret I cant make out the collar dogs nor his medal ribbons...The collars look like a laurel wreath surmounted by a crown with a cross in the middle....Almost A QA cap badge!!! :o ;D But not.... :)

Thank you so much for replying, that gives us a bit more information as we have no idea about the services, would you say that the photo is the Royal Fusiliers ?
-
Hi :)
The photo is not of men in the Royal Fusliers, which would show a fusil (bomb) as the collar badge. Neither do the collar badges look like RASC.
Can't help you with what they are but could they be from some sort of army nursing service! with the cross visible in the centre of the badge. But, they don't seem to be RAMC! unless someone knows otherwise. ::)

Thank you very much for your reply.

:)Heh Scrim
Great Badge
I think I must have nursing on the brain today for some strange reason. You see I saw this badge but knew it still wasn't right for our men in the photo.
Anyhow why did you not put that badge up sooner, holding back on me, are you!!! :D

I think it may be a Fusilier collar....
-
Thanks guys, do you think this photo is taken at Chiseldon Army Camp, Wiltshire.
-
sorry matey impossible to say....very little evidence.
my rationale for saying Fusilier, is that I have a memory of a badge with a St Georges cross and ? a figure of him, as one of the "old" badges used by the Regt...I was stationed with them "several" years ago as a VERY young soldier...
Anyone got the Collar Dog book by Colin Churchill??
I think it's called The History of The British Army Collar Badge...

Hi,
Have been looking everywhere at badges and the only one that I think it looks like is the Post Office, does this make any sense?
I have found his death and service no. so we will apply to Glasgow for his service record, but I have heard this could take as long as a year

Goodness me!!
The queue seems to be growing in length somewhat.
Anyhow, I can hardly wait to see the outcome, mind and get back to us. :D

Best seller, maybe !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
