Does anyone out there have 1851 or 1861 or 1871 welsh census that covers the Glamorgan area.
I have a John Heycock born approx 1843 Taibach Glamorgan - he married Elizabeth Rees in the latter part of 1859 - They had a son called john born early 1860's in Pyle which might give an idea of where to look.
By 1881 they were in Ystiadyfodwg and they stayed there for quite sometime.
I already have the family on 1881 - 1891 - 1901
Any help for earlier census would be gratefully recieved as I have a list of Heycocks and cannot seem to fit them together very well

Cheeseman, strange....... Y byd bach! (small world) just did a look up for pigginnut for the same individual. It will be worth you contacting her incase you are both tracing the same tree. :o
-
Hi Jen, Cheeseman was a very kind individual who heard of my lack of response on the Genes Reunited board so posted the message here to help - bless her she didn't know I had already done it.
Whatever you can do to help I will be grateful for - what I gave you is all I have literally - I am doing this as a gift and surprise for my friend her mothers name is Elizabeth Heycock she would have been born after the 1901 census just and I am going on the fact that she told me her grandparents were Samuel and Amelia and they lived in the Tonypandy area at least about 1901 and after before is another matter - I also know elizabeth hada brother haydn heycock born abt 1901 - but he is not on census - I found a birth record for a Haydn on freebmd for June quarter 1901 Pontypridd district I am sure this must be him - here's me wishing he was a few weeks premature I might have just found him on that census lol

Thank you so much

Ahh, nevermind :'( I have since merged the 2 threads together (to alleviate any confusion)
Going through the print out from the information you gave yesterday.
The placenames giving you confusion are:
Adderanon = Aberafan
Pontrhydyfe = Pontrhydyfen
The Census information for 1901 1891 & 1881 seem to be the correct Heycock family. It is just a question of now finding out about the census futher back , will have another look through the 1841 - 51 & 61 Glamorgan census' for you to see if i can fathom it all out!
Hopefully some one can give you an 1871 Glamorgan look up for the family concerned
The 1861 census detail I gave you is the only possible for John c. 1843 So I believe this is the correct entry for him, which would mean he is not married in 1861:

The other Heycock's who I think could possibly be related ( I have a feeling the two heads of the households x2John's are cousins or perhaps Father & Son?) are below, note there is a Baby 2mths old, and the husband and wife are John & Elizabeth also. I think this is where you have gone wrong perhaps?:

It could be that this couple were the ones getting married Sept quarter of 1859 in Neath. The older children may be born out of wedlock or Elizabeth (possibly Rees) may be their step mother. The census would note the head of the households relationship to the rest of the family listed.

There are once again other John Heycock's listeed in 1851 but this is the only one in the correct age range:

I hope I have not added to the confusion. It is very likely these 2 families are linked.

Welsh Jen, the John listed in this record is my greatgreatgrandfather. His wife Elizabeth was Elizabeth Edmonds. Yes, I have wondered about her age with the oldest children but I cannot find a marriage record for my greatgreatgrandfather.

The marriage listing for Bethuel and Elizabeth Jones is for my 4th greatgrandparents.
I think you may be right in thinking that there may be a cousin relationship between the John in my direct line and the John pigginnut is researching. Looking at the listing you provided from the 1861 census that John had children Bethuel, Samuel and John. Bethuel is not a very common name. My 4th greatgrandfather Bethuel's grandfather was Samuel, and Samuel's father was John. First names and naming conventions are helpful when one can only speculate due to the absence of records.

Hi,
I just googled this name and this came up. Pigginnut did you do a family tree or something? I’d love to see how you got on with it as my grandmother was John heycock grand daughter ( Elizabeth maud heycock) . I’ve started one an ancestry and I’m getting quite obsessed as the history is so interesting
Are we related or was this for someone else?
-
Hey @billhealy. I’ve just added bethuel on my family tree . How are they related to you? I’m from that line too. How far did you get on this line?
-
There were two Bethuel Haycocks. The elder Bethuel (1766-1839) was my 4th great grandfather. He had, among other children, John, born in 1809, and my 3rd great grandfather, Bethuel. I'm guessing that the John born in 1809 was the father of your John, born in 1843. The younger Bethuel had a son John who was my 2nd great grandfather. He emigrated to the US ~1864. So our common ancestor would be the elder Bethuel.

No worries. Thanks

Could this be the John you want - but he's at Tredegar in 1871
RG10/5327/16 p 26
This family seem to be the one that moved to Penygraig by 1881, with son Samuel born Rhymney & GRO has Samuel's mother's maiden name as Rees
The John of this 1871 family married Elizabeth Rees in Neath Reg Dist, Dec 1864.
