I wonder if anyone can help with locating the baptism of William RUSHWORTH, which, I believe, took place probably in late 1834 at Sculcoates. His parents were married there in March 1834 but other records I have consulted would suggest his was born in the same year. His father was another William and his mother Mary or Mary Ann. I am particularly interested in knowing what profession is given for William Snr.
Thanks for any help.
Best wishes,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Just to let you know that there is no entry in Sculcoates Baptisms 1831-1837 for a William Rushworth.

Hi Mark,
Can I ask where your information came from about the marriage and birth? (I see the IGI site has it - 3 March 1834) I can't find the Rushworths in Hull area in 1841 census, do you have any census information for them?

Many thanks Gogogadgetlegs for checking the Sculcoates baptisms for William, even though your search was unsuccessful.

Hello Barbara,
Thanks for your message regarding William RUSHWORTH'S baptism. William snr. and Mary plus their children were living in Owston Ferry in Lincolnshire by the time of the 1841 census. They were also there in 1851.
The marriage I have is from the IGI - I believe it to be correct (at least the fact that it relates to my William's parents) as on the 1851 census a daughter Mary Ann Hansley is listed with the family who was William's mother's child by her previous husband John Hansley.
William jnr. was buried at Owston Ferry in Lincolnshire on 22nd October 1874 aged 40.
Having looked at the 1851 census again I note that the whole of the family is listed as being born in Hull, but as the marriage took place in Sculcoates I had assumed the baptism would also be found there too. I must admit I had thought Sculcoates was a part of Hull.
I hope this may make my information a little clearer.
Thanks once again,
Best wishes,
Mark

Hello Mark,
The parish of Sculcoates used to be a separate village but about 1835 became a suburb of Hull
see www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ERY/Sculcoates/index.html
So I suppose depending on where they were living, the baptism could have been anywhere in the Hull area.

Thanks Barbara and Bee for the webpages relating to Sculcoates. Interesting information. It would seem I need to start my request for help with William RUSHWORTH but asking for help locating his baptism in Hull, but then again, maybe the family at the time were Methodists!
Thanks once again,
Mark
