Can anyone help me? I'm trying to find the death record of Frederick Pengilly (also known as Fred Pengilly and possibly misspelled as Pengelly) - last known residence Gila, Arizona (1930 US Federal Census). I have no idea when he died - only that he must have by now he was born 1892. I've tried ancestry.co.uk and Arizona Genealogy Online. How do I go about finding the death record? He emigrated to the US in 1912 (I found him on the Ellis Island Website) - does that mean he would have had a social security number? Or would an Immigrant to the US not be entitled to one?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

He would have a SSN if he lived long enough (started 1937, I believe) and if he applied for one. In the censuses, is he a naturalized US citizen? This is a different thing from being shown on the Social Security Death Index - if he died in the 1950s, for example, he may well have had a SSN but would be unlikely to be on the SSDI.
http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.pengilley/9/mb.ashx - is this from you as well? Says he divorced at some point and the rest of the family returned to England, so at this point he could have gone just about anywhere.
What was his occupation? Do you know his exact birth date?

Hi both, thank you for your replies - the rootsweb thing is me yes... He was born 10 July 1892 and his occupation has been listed as Engineer, Mining Engineer and Railway Engineer in various places. I'm not sure if he and my Great Grandmother divorced - but she defnitely returned to England (bringing her 3 children back with her) so they separated or divorced - I can't find a divorce record either. We believe he stayed in the US, but I guess we can't be 100% sure - and unfortunately I have no idea if he died pre or post 1937? I've seen both Frederick Pengilly and Pengelley that Peggy has pointed out to - but the dates aren't right and our Fred was born in Cornwall, England- so I didn't delve any further with them. Our surname is regularly spely incorrectly - Pengilley, Pengelly, Pengelley, Penguilly - ao I have tried all the alternative spellings as well.
The last known existence of him is the 1930 US Federal Census - I guess I'll just have to wait for the 1940 to see if he was still around by then?
Thank you
