Title: Bromage
Post by: therocketteers on Sunday 17 June 07 18:08 BST (UK)
Is anyone out there looking at Bromage’s?
I have been trying to find Henry Bromage’s death now for about 18 years!!
He was born Crick 1849?
Between 1866 and until 1891 census he was in Newcastle under Lyme.
He and his wife Harriet separated and she took up with a chap named  John Tideswell, and Henry turned up in 1891 census in Derby living with his parents, John and Eliza.
In 1901 there is no sign of him anywhere but there is a Henry Dunkley lodging with Eliza as John had died.
I have looked everywhere for Henrys death, including obtaining death certs for the wrong man…
Can anyone help with fresh ideas or hope?

You need to be aware of the many different spellings of the name.

I have found the spellings Bromwich, Brumage and Bromage for my ancestor Elizabeth.  She was married in Market Harborough in 1817 to Richard Buswell whose family have connections Winwick which is not far from Crick.  Having said that I have never managed to find Elizabeth's birth or parents.

I started on them 19 years ago tinking it was a rareish name and found this out to my cost.
We have it spealt Bromwich(started like this), Brummage, Brommage,Brimage, and the list goes on.
The dialect doesnt help as they moved from Northants to Staffs and have branches in Wales and Derbyshire too.
Mine go back to Hillmorton in Warwickshire, back into the 17th century.

Hi Jan

Have you got a marriage for his mother & Father? Do you know his mother's maiden name?

I think the guy Henry Dunkley is your Henry has he is of the same profession and place of birth. Could his mother be a Dunkley?

Do you have his birth certificate?

Cheers

As an update, I found Henry Bromages death after many years of looking.
He died in 1916 in Derby, exactly 13 years after his mother.
Her surname was Johnson, so no relative, but they came from the same vilage so I now think they were old friends.
