Can anyone help with info on a Jacob Turner. I have no birth date or death date. I think in 1881 he was living in MALTING COTTAGE, GREAT OAKLEY, ESSEX. With his wife SARAH, b 1848. 5 Children.
ELLEN MARIA
ELISA b 1879
JOSEPH b 1883
FREDERICK b 1885
SARAH b 22nd August 1888....d 13th July 1970.
In a later census he was not there, and I have not been able to find out what happened to him.

Would you like any of the earlier census information Paul?

That would be great thanks, but what i am really after is a bit of a family mystery, which we didn't find out about until my nan died a few years ago. Will try to explain.
My maternal Great Grandparents were SARAH DYE (nee TURNER ) b 1888 and GEORGE DYE.
My nan, and the rest of the family always knew SARAH and GEORGE as my nans parents, but it was only when going through my nans stuff with my mum I discovered something that didn' quite fit.
On my nans birth cert it states that she was born at 13 UNION ROAD, which was a workhouse in Leyton. Her mother on the cert was a JENNY TURNER, a domestic servant at 38 Chingford Road, and the informant was a J. TURNER residing at 13 Union Road. I have no info on her apart from what is on the birth cert. I did go up to the records office in Chelmsford I think it was. Found a few turners living in GREAT OAKLEY, apparently they were a big family in the village. I also found 6 headstones in the graveyard of the church, which incidentally has not been used for sometime. Even with everything i found out I could not find anything to do with a Jenny Turner, So I gave up, and it is only until recently that I have started to try to solve the family mystery. She is definetly something to do with the Turners of Great Oakley, but don't know how, and don't know where to start, with having so little information. I wanted to go to the family records centre in islington, but just don't seem to have the time. So I am basically stumped.
Regards
Paul

Incidentally, the names found in graveyard were
ROSALIND TURNER
FRED TURNER
FRANK JOHN TURNER
DAVID TURNER b 1838 d 1871
ROBERT TURNER b 1800 d 1892
ELIZABETH TURNER b 1803 d 1884

Hi again Paul,
Therefore the Sarah aged 2 that I found in 1891 is your great grandmother ..
To make it easier to follow I will post the 1901 census details:

Thanks.
But have you got any idea how I can find the mysterious JENNY TURNER, my reag Great Grandmother.
Cheers
Paul

What year was your nan born Paul?
-
MAUD ELLEN TURNER born 2st JULY 1911. 13 Union Road. Leytnstone. Leyton.
-
Sorry. mistake. 21st of July
-
I'm just thinking aloud here .. ..
Birth, Sept 1888
Sarah Turner
Tendring, Vol 4a, page 485
Therefore Sarah was still only 22 when your nan was born?
You will hate me for stating the obvious but I think the 1911 census could hopefully throw up a lot of answers - it's a pity she couldn't have been born a few months earlier though!
Marriage, Sept qtr 1914
George Dye
Sarah Turner
West Ham, Vol. 4a, page 434

Our thought was that Jenny Turner may have been one of Sarahs cousins and for some reason she took on jennys baby, my nan. But i need to find out if jacob hd any brothers or sisters. thats the only think we can think of. At least ifi can find a jenny turner somewhere in the family i wll hopefully be on the way to the mystery being solved.

Paul,
She is definetly something to do with the Turners of Great Oakley, but don't know how
,
based on the known lineage of Sarah presumably ?

I was so side tracked by Jenny - I forgot I'd promised to look up Jacob - sorry Paul! Also the Jane I found was born in the 1870's.

Hi pgod.
I know it's been a few years since you posted on this site re: Jenny Turner. I have just found the post you posted and am amazed that my story is almost EXACTLY the same. My grandmother died with the entire family believing that William John Turner & his wife Annie were her parents. However that was not the case. Her mothers name on her birth certificate was JENNY TURNER - no father listed. She was born in Salvation Army home for un married mothers in 1907. William John was Jacobs eldest son from Wix,Essex. You say that your grandmother was brought up by Sarah & George Dye. Sarah was Jacobs youngest child. One of the things that confuses me is Sarah & George married in 1914 & Maud Ellen was born in 1911. Jenny left my grandmother with William & Annie in 1907. Where was she between 1907-1911?? Have you uncovered anymore info? Would be great to discuss & maybe solve this mystey. Thank you. jsg345
