Title: Owen Family Llandudno
Post by: Hallamette on Thursday 14 June 07 11:31 BST (UK)
I am trying to find the parents of John Owen 1797 Copper Miner/Hotel Keeper Prince of Wales House, Lloyd Street, Llandudno (wife Alice) and William Owen 1800(wife Anne) Inn Keeper of the Kings Head Llandudno. My gut feeling is that they are brothers but as yet I am unable to prove it. Any help I can get will be appreciated.

Thanks

I am in the process of tracing those exact roots, as that is my Greatgreat  Grandfather i am going to visit Llandudno Archives and do some searching. i will let you know. John Owen (Prince of Wales) was one of the original squatters on Llandudno Morfa and they flattened the original Prince of Wales to build the Grand Hotel ( Next door to the New Prince of Wales Loyd St or as it is known now St Georges Crescent) which was designed and owned by Isaac Davies who married William Owens Daughter Ann and took over the Kings. If you are related let me know i have lots more information i.e. Johns son Richard Owen "The Clock" Overton House

Hi
If John and William are brothers, we are related! William Owen was my GG Grandfather.
William Owens daughter (known as Anne Jane) married Isaiah ,not Isaac, Davies. He became the landlord of "The Kings Head" which was previously the inn of William Owen. Together they designed and built St Georges Hotel having been given the plot of land on the sea front by the agent of Lord Mostyn in lieu of an unpaid bar debt.
I would be really interested in anything else you could tell me.

I thought that the surname of William and John was actually Owens not Owen.  This is quoted from Llandudno before the Hotels by Christopher Draper.  I have traced my relatives back to John Owens born in Llandudno in 1823 (married to Margaret) - but have yet to check parish records to trace Johns parents.   Be interested to hear / share your research.

Hi You will find that most times its down to the transcriber or author of the piece and their interpretation whether it is Owen or Owens as in Owen's family! John from the Prince of Wales was Defiantly Owen as i have Birth and Marriage certs for the family. I have got Owens on both side of the family so i have had fun as i have traced them back to 1800'ish (I will send you a pm with my e mail and i can send you any relevant scans or info i might have)

Oops i forgot to mention that John Owen didn't have a son John at all and unfortunately i have only copied all the Owen births from 1761 to 1815 (I will send a scan of that to you) so i just missed the date you want, I will be checking the latter dates when i get chance to travel to the Llandudno Archives again but i am very limited in the opportunity to travel

Dear Hallamette,

I am related to John OWENS born abt 1850 (boatman from Gogarth in 1872 when married) and Margaret JONES bn abt 1846.(from Adwy Rudd in 1872 when married).  I am trying to prove to myself John's parentage.  I have a couple of possibles
1. John OWENS bn 1823 who married a Susannah JONES in 1849
2. John OWENS bn 1823 who married Margaret ROBERTS

It seems my branch may link into yours and so any help would be much appreciated.

John Jnr's father in 1872 is noted as a labourer (John Jnr marriage cert) and Margaret Jones father was Hugh Jones a miner at that time.  The couple had 7 children
Emily Agnes bn 1874, John bn abt 1875, William Hugh bn 1877, Susannah Ann bn 1878, Robert bn abt 1880, Sarah bn abt 1882, Thomas bn abt 1886

Hope some of this sounds familiar

Regards
Jo
