Title: CADWELL of Galway
Post by: lmw22 on Friday 08 June 07 13:56 BST (UK)
My husband's 3 x g grandmother was a Mary Ann Cadwell, born circa 1822 in Galway (actual area unknown) and she married Frederick Ewington in Offley, Herts in 1837 and some time after his death she married George Newberry in 1873 in Luton.

Mary Ann's parents were James Cadwell & Mary Ann (surname unknown).  They had 7 children in total, that we have found so far, 6 born in Galway and 1 in Offley, Herts.  We have been unable to go any further back as we do not know which town/village to look at.

On the 1841 census James & Mary Ann are living in Offley with the youngest 3 children plus the oldest who was newly married.   The oldest 4 children all married in the UK.

We cannot find James/Mary Ann and the youngest 3 children on any further census return.  Another daughter, Amelia, turns up on the 1851 census with an illegitimate son.  He stays and eventually marries but Amelia disappears.

We would like to know where the family originated from and where those who disappread went to.  We assume that they all emigrated but do not know where to.

Thanks

Hello Lynn,

What denomination were the Cadwell and Ewington families?

Hi, Christopher

Cannot be sure but Frederick and Mary Ann married in the parish church in Offley, Hertfordshire.
