Title: 1861/51/41 Census help please!
Post by: csmalley on Friday 08 June 07 12:19 BST (UK)
I'm looking for more information about Alfred Vincent TURNER. Courtesy of another Rootschat member (;D) I have the following 1871 census entry for him:

1871  RG10/249  f.68  p.52  St Pancras, London
41 Peckwater Street

Alfred Vincent TURNER  Head  38  Housepainter  Berks Windsor
Ann                               Wife  27                      No Knowledge
Edward James              Son    7  Scholar
Alfred Vincent               Son    5  Scholar
Emily                             Daur   3
William J                        Son   1             All children born Middlesex St Pancras

From the 1881 census, Ann's birthplace is Poplar. She is, by now, a widow - Alfred died in 1871 (although she has young children born after this time with the surname Turner  :o).

I've had a look myself on the 1861 but can't find Alfred - my knowledge of London districts is very poor (I thought all my lot were from Kent!) so I'm hoping someone with a better eye than me can find him.

Many Thanks!
Clare

Poor Susannah. Didn't seem to have much luck with husbands!

Not sure how I go about identifying Alfred's father though ??? I don't have a marriage for him yet, no telling that would identify him but it might be a place to start?

Theres a Thomas Turner on IGI
Birth 10 June 1831 Christening 6 Nov 1831 St Luke Chelsea.parents William Turner and Susanna
might be worth looking into.

Also William Turner 22 Feb 1828 Christening 11 May 1828 St Andrew Holborn  parents William Turner and Susanna both are extracted records.Ages fit nicely with 41 census that Sue found
Another William Joseph Turner 18/6/1829 St Luke Chelsea same named parents.

Thanks for all of your posts ;D William Turner looks like a definite possibility.

I'm fairly new to family history, so anything further back than the census fazes me a little at the moment :-[

There is an 1868 marriage on Ancestry for:

Alfred Vincent Turner and
Anne Kington
Bethnal Green, Greater London

Names match?? Date approximately just before Alfred Vincent Jr. birth??

Just for thought
