Post by: wildgoose on Monday 04 June 07 20:24 BST (UK)
I have the following place recorded as pob in Cumberland on numerous census recs.

Langwalkby
Barron Wood
Barn Wood

Does anyone know where they are ???

There seems to be a connection with Newbiggin.

that looks like the one. ;D Was it in Cumberland?

also on the same record is pob "Stainforth" which becomes "Dents Head"  in the following Census ???

next to Stainforth there's a "Borrins Wood"  could this be Baron Wood or Barnwood? ???

Following the railway northwards from Stainforth (about 6 miles along), there is Dent Head Farm.

I can only find it as Borrins Wood on old maps - but this doesn't mean it was the wrong place.

For old maps, see www.old-maps.co.uk  (Stainforth is in Yorks, but it may not always have been so.)

Culgat could be Culgaith which is near Langwathby and a Newbiggin.
