Hi, im looking for the burial place of my gg grandma Harriett Maxfield (nee Pearson) who died in December quarter of 1906 in Worksop. She was 58. Also, her husband William Maxfield died in Worksop sometime i think between 1901-1910ish. He would probably be in his 60s. It is likely that Harriet died at Netherton Road, Worksop and so my dad tells me its likely that theyre buried in Manton cemetery. Iv had a wander but didnt find much for this particular line. Also, iv been round the Priory Gate (big church) churchyard and found absolutely nothing.
I wondered if anyone has access to the burial index to look these two deaths up?
thanks very much for your help- its much appreciated as i wont be down in yorkshire for a while yet.

Hi Alison,
I looked on the National Burial Index 2nd ed but there is only St Mary's Priory on there for Worksop at the moment and no Maxfields showed up.
Sorry,
Kate.

Hi Ali
This is from the website of Bassetlaw District Council
"We have responsibility for administering all burials in the three main cemeteries at Retford Road and Hannah Park in Worksop and one in Retford. In addition we hold and maintain the records of all past and present burials that have taken place in each one."

As the NBI only has burials up to 1901 for Worksop Priory and none for St John's church, it's still possible they were buried in churchyard and you'd need the parish records for that - should you not find them in one of the cemeteries.

hi - i dont really know worksop much at all as im a sheffielder lol but is retford road cemetery manton road cemetery???
Alison

Not my area of Notts either :)
But a quick google suggests that it might be ...I've found reference to Retford Road running past the Manton estate. Someone with better local knowledge might come up with the answer, otherwise I'd try an email to Bassetlaw DC

thanks very much

Yep, Manton cem is called Retford Road.
Good luck with emailing them - I've now sent two to that email address asking about locating my Grandfather's grave and received no reply :(
Oh and the cemetary looked awful when I went a couple of months ago (and failed to locate his grave) - the council have been stress testing memorials.... :-\
-
yes i was in it afew months ago - is that what all those wodden logs hammered in the ground are?
Why is it necessary to do that?
Alison
-
Yep, that's what all those wooden logs are.
Looks horrible doesn't it :'(
It's not just old stones they're doing it to though, there's stones only a couple of years old being affected. Now you can't convince me that they could be dangerous :-\

Hi,
Can someone do a burial look up for me,
Arthur Horace Gaunt buried in Worksop possibly 1951 age 71. Just wondered what the gravestone said.
His wife Fanny Louisa Atton GAUNT possibly died before him. I have no details for her. She lived at Worksop 18 Marecroft.
Many Thanks if you can help

Ken you may be better off posting this on its own rather than tagging it to another posting.
