Hi Leggy,

My Hessey (Hissey) line is currently back to a George Hessey born c.1775 in Ramsbury Wilts.  I am struggling to find any parents/siblings for him - so it may well be that his family came from further afield in the Berks area, I know there were alot of Hessey/Hissey families in Buttermere and Beenham for example.
How far back is your line?  Do you have a George that goes missing?
Please feel free to look at my tree online and do let me know if you think there might be a connection.
Regards
Simone.

Hi Paul,

This wouldn't be a Sarah Goddard by any chance would it?  Could you give me a bit more detail?

Thanks

Hi Simone, Can't find a George I'm afraid. The Hisseys I have go back to John Hissey b.1580 in Hinton Waldrist. From there they go to Longworth, Hampstead Norreys then Beenham. I will keep my eyes/ears open though and let you know if I come across anything.
Good Luck! Lynn. (Leggy)

Hi Lynn
Thanks for your message.  Shame that we don't connect up yet.  My poor George must come from somewhere - I just can't find his family.
Will keep looking!

Simone.

I'm looking for Gale in Berkshire.   I've reached a dead end with William James Gale b abt 1855 Reading, who at the time of the 1871 census was living with Grandparents (NOKES).

I have pretty good records from 1871 - 1930 (all Reading)

Hi Harry

think this is your man (from the IGI)
baptism Reading St Giles 16th August 1857 William James Gale to Thomas William & Emma Gale -they baptised another son Joseph Thomas the same day so it looks as though they saved them up and had them done together - which is probably why the year of birth is out with the baptism.

Here is the rest of the family in 1881
34 Orchard St   Reading St Giles
Thomas W. GALE   M   47    M   Reading, Berkshire
      Head      Iron Moulder
Emma GALE   M   47    F   Wokingham, Berkshire
   Wife      Tailoress
James Dennis GALE   U   23    M   Reading, Berkshire
   Son   Iron Founder Lab
Emma Elizth. GALE   U   20    F   Reading, Berkshire
Daur   General Domestic Serv
John Thomas GALE   U   18    M   Reading, Berkshire
   Son  Apprentice Hardware
Ellen Jane GALE       14    F   Reading, Berkshire
Annie GALE       8    F   Reading, Berkshire
Alice GALE       5    F   Reading, Berkshire
George GALE       3    M   Reading, Berkshire

Hope it helps

Debbie

Hi Harry, sorry for delay in replying.  Unfortunately that is not my Gale line - but it seems that Debbie may have helped you back on your trail again in the meantime.  So that is good news  :D

Hi Simone

I'm researching for my aunt.  We have a Mary Anne EATWELL born Calne, Wilts in about 1832.  She married Henry SALTER Sep 1852.

In various census returns she has relatives (?) boarding with her: Fanny EATWELL born about 1814 in Monkton and Elizabeth EATWELL born 1795 in Tytherton (?) Wilts.

In 1871 Fanny is married to William EATWELL who was born in Calne c 1825.

Would be interested to know if any of these sound familiar to you.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hi
Sorry for the delay.

Well the names Mary Anne, Fanny and William are familiar to my Eatwell tree, but I haven't found any of mine in the Calne area yet.

My current research has led me back to a William and Martha Eatwell in Wroughton in the mid to late 1700s.  One of their sons, Adam, married in Ramsbury Wilts and my direct line continues on down from him in that area.    However, any of his siblings could well have stayed in Wroughton, or travelled in the opposite direction towards Calne, I suppose it is possible.  You never know with ancestors!!  ::)

Regards
Simone.

Hello, I was wondering if I might have a password for your website? I have Goddards in my tree, and was wondering if there were any cross-overs.

Hello

I have this family on my tree.  Not quite as you have it but very similar. I think we can help one another. I can certainly introduce you to other Gunter researchers.
Thomas was born in Bradfield Workhouse but his mother came from Aldermaston, as did his grandparents and great grandparents.
Aldermaston is in the Bradfield Reg District but is a totally different parish.
Perhaps you would send me a private message.

Hello,

My message that you seem to be replying to is dated 8th Aug 08 and the thread started off as nothing to do with the Gunters. Since then we and other people have cross corresponded on another Rootschat thread and privately about these Gunters.
The latest reply to this thread is nothing to do with me. The quote comes from 5th March 05 (see above) but there is no message with it.

To clarify Gunters, There wasn't a PROVEN connection between the Aldermaston Gunters and the Enborne ones - not in the time period that you were looking at. However, as I think I said in our correspondence,
Thomas Gunter 1841 Newbury who married Ann Sandford of Enborne and had children in Enborne was shown in the 1851 census as  the son of Richard Gunter 1813-1886 and Emma Aldridge 1811-1851.
Richard was born in Speen, and since the time that we corresponded I have been told by another researcher (but haven't seen the PRs) that Richard was christened at Speen, son of Richard 1776 Aldermaston-1830 Speen and Elizabeth Hughes b abt 1775. Elizabeth was also buried in Speen in 1838 and everything fits, so I am happy, until I can get to see the PRs as final proof.

If you need any more information that you cannot get yourself, perhaps a new Gunter thread  might be best, as this thread is getting extremely muddled - and muddied.

Yours
Vicwinann
