Hello Dave,
What denomination were the Byrne, Gartland, King and Yore families?

Hi Christopher,
thanks for taking an interest in such an old post.
As far as we know, they were all RC.

My father's name was Peter Joseph Gartlan of Drumgoolan, Dundalk, Co Louth, (d. 1995 in Ventura, CA) His father was Patrick Gartlan of Donaghmoyne Parish, died in the early 1940's and is buried at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dundalk, Co. Louth. His father, John Gartlan of Killabrick, Co. Louth was born in 1865 (I think), , his father was Peter Gartlan, died 1790 and is buried in Donaghmoyne Cemetary in Co. Louth.
I had several distant Byrne cousins from Drogheda. Thomas Byrne, Mary Byrne, lived on Bolton Street and are buried in the cemetary in Navan, along with the Corry family.
I still have numerous Gartlan first cousins in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, and in Louth Village as well.
Good luck on your search

First of all, Welcome to Rootschat agartlan and thanks for replying to my post.
I'll send you a PM (personal message) with my email address as I reckon we can share info, if you don't mind.
I started this post for one of my pals, Michael G.
Michael's grandfather was Joseph and we reckon he was born c1880. He married Kate King.
Joseph and Kate had 7 children that we know of - Anne, Kathleen, Francis, Patrick, Thomas, Theresa and John.
Michael's dad was John Gartlan born c1920 and he died in 1964. He married Mary Byrne.
From the info you've given it's difficult to work out dates but I reckon there must be a connection at some point. Perhaps your grandfather and my pal Michael's grandfather were cousins, or better still, brothers?
Michael still visits relatives in Carrickmoss.
Hope to speak with you soon.

agartlan, I think we are cousins, your father Peter was my mother Gertrude's brother. Is it possible to get in touch? I don't know the protocol or even if you still check this site. Here's hoping.

agartlan:
> His [Patrick's] father [was] John Gartlan of Killabrick, Co. Louth was born in 1865 (I think)... <
Killabrick townland is in Donaghmoyne, Civil Parish Magheross, Co Monaghan.
Do you have a wife or mother's name for any of these Gartlan's?
> [John's?] father was Peter Gartlan, died 1790 and is buried in Donaghmoyne Cemetary in Co. Louth. <
County Louth? Or do you mean Old Donaghmoyne Graveyard in Co Monaghan?
Peter who died in 1790 ... at what age, or in what year was he born, do you know?
> I still have numerous Gartlan first cousins in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, and in Louth Village as well. <
Is that Carrickmacross Town, Cmx Rural, or a reference to PLU Carrickmacross?
A few of us have collected considerable Gartlan information , some of which has been connected to a clan or two or several generations, but due to the common 1st names, it's hard to determine what might be relevant and helpful without a little more information ... if and when it's available.
Cheers!

Dave,
> Joseph Gartlan bc1880 Dundalk or Carrickmoss, Co Louth married Katherine King.
Children:
Ann, Kathleen, FRANCIS, Patrick, Thomas, John and Theresa <
Maybe this will fit (keeping in mind the misspelling of Gartlan was frequent):
FRANCIS Joseph Gartland b Oct-Dec 1913 Dist. of Cmx
(B) 101075, V2, p 362, DGS 4194694, 00244
Cheers!

Just got word back from Michael that Francis Joseph Gartland is indeed his father's oldest brother.
Michael doesn't have a lot of free time at the moment but will follow up when he can.
Thanks again.

This is s very old post, so I'm not sure if anyone will pick this up, but I am searching for info on a Peter Gartland, from somewhere in Ireland.
I saw these posts and wondered if he is related to the other Gartands mentioned here. "Peter Garland from Ireland, Catholic and Anne Young, Protestant, Edinburgh" were married at St Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh 15 Nov 1814. Anne's surname was actually Younger, and I have seen Peter's with several different spellings. They had 8 daughters: Anne, Mary, Jane, Margaret, Elizabeth, Catherine, Helena and Alexa and 2 sons, James and Peter. Peter snr became a Lamplighter for the South Leith Gas Company. They were slightly hard to decipher in the census records from another Peter and Ann Gartlan also living in Edinburgh at the time, and also Irish. Peter and Anne's daughter Anne later married Alexander Wilson and moved to NZ. Their son Peter moved to Australia (Melbourne).
I haven't been able to find any further info indicating where in Ireland my Peter Gartland the Lamplighter is from- if anyone could help I'd be very grateful.
