Title: Building in Peterhead 1916
Post by: nequine on Thursday 31 May 07 23:32 BST (UK)
Dear Community

Interested in knowing anything about Mile End House, Peterhead functioning in 1916.   Was it a guest house, small hotel - somewhere to take the waters?

No idea of location or if it still exists.

Thanks for any help.

If you have a look on www.nls.uk/maps/early/os_scotland_popular_list.html
Then click on Sheet 31
Peterhead bay is diamond shaped - look at the left 'corner' and you'll see Mile End, just inland. That whole area is overbuilt now with housing but the name survives in a couple of the streetnames.
It's quite common here for farms to be called 'Something House' - I have two within throwing distance as I write! They were just the main farm and could have several cottages associated with them. That would be my best guess, rather than a hotel.
