I'm looking for a family who should be named QUARMAN but it comes up wrong so many times!!! A couple of months after the 1861 census they end up in Bethnal Green workhouse and the address they gave was at:
Hepworth Place, Fountain Court, Virginia Row, Bethnal Green. Seems like it may have been a boarding house. Not a nice one either!
Anyway, the family would have been Sarah aged about 42 with her children Elizabeth age 11, Ellen age 6, John age 4 and Eliza age 1. I can't seem to find them anywhere on the 1861 and am unsure which district their building would have been in to search that way.
Thankyou in advance!

Hello, Vikki,
I have not managed to find anything in the 1861 census that would fit your Quarman family, I have looked at the addresses you gave, piece nos>>
RG9/251 folio 20
Fountain court,Crabtree Row
Rg/9251 folios 8 - 14, 22
Rg252 folios 91-95
Virginia Row.
I did find the following birth entries .
Elizabeth Quarman
June ¼ 1849 Bethnal Green II 67
Ellen Quarman
June ¼ 1854 Bethnal Green 1c 228
John Benjamin Quarman
Mar ¼ 1856 Bethnal Green 1c 273
Eliza Quarman
Mar ¼ 1859 Bethnal Green 1c 236
The birth Mar ¼ 1859 should give you an address for a possible entry in the 1861 census.
Hope this helps.

HI Meliora
THanks for your reply
The birth in 1859 for Eliza Quarman was on 5 Januarty 1859 at Old Castle Street Bethnal Green.
This family kept hiding during census time I think!
THanks

Sorry, Vikki,
In my post I should have put that Virginia Row, piece nos
RG107/251 & 252, was in Old Castle St., Bethnal Green.
On checking the street index it shows that a part of the schedule is missing for this street. This more than likely is the reason for not finding any Quarmans in the name index or looing thro' the existing part.
Unfortunatly it always seems to be the one you are looking for is in the bit that is missing.

I'm not going to find them am I?!?!?!
Thankyou so much for trying! At least I have an idea of where they should have been.
Thanks
