Title: Lester family
Post by: big g on Sunday 27 May 07 13:43 BST (UK)
I am looking for death details of Hugh Lester, born 1890 Lehi, Webster County, Kentucky, also his brother John born 1883, St.Helens, Lancs. England, and their  sister Adriatica A.O. born 1888 in American waters.

I have found details of Adriatica sailing to join her brother John, in 1913, in Bridgeport.

I would also like to find details of Hugh reentering U.S.A.

Genealiza,
It just gets better and better...................wow

Thank you so much for all this info.

I had been directed to the Ellisisland site and found some details of John Lester sailing on the Carmania, unfortunately I don't have subs to the U.S. info, so my info was limited.
So now I have info re John and his sister Adriatica, but not much about their brother Hugh.

On the English census 1891, it states him to have been born Lehi, Webster County, America - at first I found Lehigh, Webster County, Iowa, and than found Lehi, Webster County, Kentucky - I need help on determining which!!!!!

I understand that Hugh returned to America and died there - any chance of you finding if that is correct? ???

I really do appreciate your help .

Glenys

On the 1910 passenger list, it states that John had been to the US before, in 1907.  More specifially, Kalo, Iowa.  I looked it up, and Kalo is in Webster County, Iowa, sse of Fort Dodge.   Maybe Hugh died there at that time.  Here is a website that gives the information held by the local courts--

http://iagenweb.org/state/research/bmdguide.htm

You might be able to email them and see if they have any records for you.  Do you know when Hugh died?

I haven't found any records for Hugh.  ---Genealiza

There is one listing of a "Hugh Lester" on the SSDI who was born in 1890.  However, I looked him up in the 1930 census and he and his parents were born in "Georgia".

Glyns,

Look at Ellis Island

There is a Jonathan Lester travelling to Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1904 to see friend, Jno Foster, of Fort Dodge, Webster Co., Iowa.

I think Iowa is the state on which you should focus your attention.---Genealiza

Interesting,

I have 1901 England, St.Helens, Jonathan living with wife Martha and their four children - did she give wrong info to enumerator?

Could there have been two Jonathan Lesters born around the same time in St.Helens area?

on 1901 gives age as 38.
on 1891 gives age as 29.

I think I need to lay down for a while !!!!

There is a Jonathan Foster, married to Martha, who, according to the 1900 census, immigrated in 1882.  He has a couple of what appear to be sons living near him in Iowa, who immigrated in 1884..  It would make sense if they moved there together.  I'll look and see if they are on the same ship.  There is an Iowa census for 1905 which lists a Jonathan Lester in Otho Twp, Webster Co, the same as Jno Foster.  However, I can't seem to find him on the actual pages.  Maybe someone else can find him.  The link I sent for the Iowa pages states that they have birth records back to the 1880s in Webster Co., and death records for the early 1880-1919 and 1921-1924.  It might be worth a query to the local court house.---Genealiza

He makes the trip in 1904, so that wouldn't affect the 1901 census.  His age is listed as 40, quite within the limits of one's personal vanity.

Morning,
Re Iowa, Webster County -  I have emailed Karen, who is coordinator for transcribing, asking for help.  The online birth records only start 1901.

On Ellisisland, Jonathan Lester arriving Dec 05,1904 aboard Etruria, when I read the manifest one of the columns asked if in U.S. before, and Jonathan had filled in 1900 to 1904 Fort Dodge!

I am so grateful for your help and interest.

Hi I know this is a long shot as the original post is from so long ago but I am researching my family tree and Hugh Lester that you are enquiring about is my great grandfather.  My dads mum is Adriatic born 1919 named after his sister Adriatic Atlantic Ocean Lester born on the crossing to America 20.09.1887.  Other than his birth record I have his other documentation his marriage certificate the legal and not so legal one, his death record he didn't go back to America he died in a motorbike accident in Wales in 1933. I also have marriage records of his brother and his sisters and death records also and where they all ended up.
