Hi All
am hoping someone might be able to solve this for me.
What could the christian name VENIE be short for!!!! It is a message on the back of a very old photo, 1928, so could possibly be VINIE & short for Vincent but looks more like an E & I don't know if the reference is to a male or female.
I'm afraid I can't think of anything. Any suggestions would be wonderful.
Regards

I have Venia as a name on its own in my Cambridgeshire lot.
But it could also be short for Lavinia. :)

hello there
could of course be a nickname
or short for venita a girls name but they often get nita

Hi
I did a quick look on the FreeBMD site and there were lots of examples of the name Venie. Judging by the majority of the middle, or second Christian names, they were female.

Hi Jenn
not sure really, very poor quality, it's very sandy underfoot, people are behind & in the foreground is I "think" my grandmothers sister, Annie & her 3 children, shorts, long sleeved shirts & hats, they were possibly watching something. I only have a copy of the original but there was no postmark on the original.
I think it is possibly one of Sydney's beaches but could be Qld. Sorry, nothing much else, except Annie's message to her sister, my grandmother on the back & dated 1928.

sorry to be persistent but are there any other names on the photo

Hi Jenn
no, no names but I think the Annie, is Annie Margery Doherty who arrived in Brisbane with her sister, Sarah Ann Doherty from Ireland in 1910. Sarah went on to marry George Dawson & lived in Sydney. Annie I think stayed on in Brisbane & possibly married John Edmund Cowderoy in 1913. One daughter is possibly Alice Jane born 1914, so 14 years in 1928 & then 2 boys who would be aged about 5 & 8 years. I did find an Isabella Cowderoy dying in Newtown NSW in 1927 who could quite possibly be another daughter between the 14 & 8 year old. Sarah died in 1930 in Pt Macquarie aged 44 years. Annie was quite angry her sister did not visit her & says "Venie went in the hospital & had an operation so you see I had no time to come down again", but may have been unaware that Sarah was very ill herself at the time. If Annie was in Qld she may have meant she could not get down to Pt Macquarie.???
That's about it.

Hi Pat
thankyou for replying, possibly no connection, but you never know. Can I ask for a maiden name or married name, age perhaps. You can PM me if you would like.

We have a Lavinia Kelynack in my husband's family tree and later descendants are down at a funeral with the name Vinnie as a shortened form of Lavinia. They are all from Newlyn/Paul parish. As you have Kelynacks in your reseach area of families and they are from Newlyn could yours also be Lavinia?
