Title: GRIGSON in Bicester
Post by: mhrjh14 on Friday 25 May 07 17:03 BST (UK)
Hello. I wonder if there is anyone who could look at the Bicester records for me, to clear up a slight mystery.
I am looking for the birth of William John GRIGSON who a/c the 1851 census was born around 1820 in Bicester to Thomas William and Mary Ann Grigson. They had a son baptised 14th June 1818 called John William GRIGSON and what I am trying to work out is whether he died soon after birth and so they swapped the names round for the next son, or whether William John/John William are the same person who simply prefered William as a name in adult life?  ??? ??? ???
(Am also interested if there is any reference to these parents having a son called Thomas, born c 1819?)
Many thanks
Maggie

Hi Maggie

Looked at the Bicester transcripts and there is only one entry in the baptisms under the name Grigson which is the one you already have for John William (in case you don't have the full info - Thomas was a schoolmaster & John was born the same day).

The name Grigson doesn't appear in the burial index. So they were probably one and the same person.

Best Wishes

Maggie
