Title: Alloa death/burial - ERKSINE
Post by: Jang on Wednesday 23 May 07 02:31 BST (UK)
Does anyone have access to the burial records for Alloa? I'm looking for the death/burial of John ERSKINE which took place between 1805 (birth of daughter) and 1812 (his widow's remarriage). I don't know when he was born (his wife Margaret MURRAY) was born ca 1771.

Many thanks :-)

I'm probably stating the obvious, but I don't suppose you've checked SP? Or does that not have the records that you are looking for?

Hi JeatherL,

No, unfortunately there's no death or burial record for a John Erskine in Clackmannan in this time period.

Jan,

Is this John Erskine who, according to Family Search, married Margaret MORRAY on 11 March 1796 at Clackmannan.

Hello, Central Scotland Family History Society publishes lists of burial records for Clackmannanshire.

I have a copy of Clackmannanshire M.I.'s and I'll try and have a look for John Erskine over the next few days after Christmas.

Jan,

I have looked at the Central Scotland FHS index to Alloa burials, and I am afraid there is no reference to any John Erskine.   This index relates to names appearing in the Church records for the parish (for instance for the hire of the mortcloth), and the number of entries is quite small.

It could still be that there is a gravestone record in the M.I.'s which maddymoss is going to look at for you.

Hi,

Sorry, but there is no record of your John Erskine in Clackmannanshire M.I.'s.

A direct ancestor of mine, Charles Hutton died in Alloa in 1863. His death cert by a neighbour lists his mother as Erskine although his birth mother was Dobson. There may be a good reason that Erskine is listed and as he was born in 1818 it may well be something to do with this Erskine line in the area.
