Title: Cain/Cane/Kane from Roscommon
Post by: bluemoon10 on Saturday 19 May 07 05:13 BST (UK)
Looking to a link to the Cain family from Roscommon.

My GG grandfather John Cain ( but spelled Cane and Kane in several English census) b, abt 1831 in Roscommon first appeared on English census 1871, but married Ellen Durkin nee Henry from Sligo in 1866 in Walsall, Staffordshire. His father was called Thomas Cain and had 2 sons Thomas b. in 1868 in Walsall and Patrick .1870 in Bradford and a daughter Anne b.1872 Bradford

I don't know what district of Roscommon but if someone could even let me know of any Cain's from Roscoomon around 1830 it would be a start.

Regards. Mick

I have a John Coyne (variants are Koyne, Cain , Kain, Kine etc) who was born somewhere in Roscommon around 1835, he was the s/o Michael and Rosa Coyne (nee McGovern). Michael, Rosa and their children lived in Walsall, Staffordshire from the mid 1840's. Do you think the 2 families could be connected? It might be that my Michael and your Thomas are brothers or cousins.

Hi Judy
its been a while since you posted this, i must have missed it ?
John Cain's father was Thomas, but as you suggested they could be related. Not only is Coyne a variant but i have 4 different spellings from English records for my Cain family. I will look at the census records and see if its shows any links.

I'll keep you posted thanks, sorry for 10 month delay.

Mick
