When my mum passed away in 2004 i was able to take possession of some cards that i always knew she had in her little case. One of these was my Baptism card,(that all parents received on the day of baptism.) It tells me i was baptizes at the parish of St Paul's in Chester on October 12th and that my Godmothers were Eleen Nellie Jones dads sister & Caroline Jones.My Godfather was Jack Duncan Shaw. It looks like i was Baptized again when mum moved back to wirral,because the second card is a sunday school one .Nice picture of an angel and a little girl that looks like me(then) Saying that Celia is three years old today 5th July.On the back it has a baptism 12th October one year later. A card i never took much notice of before turned out to be the baptism card of my dad Cecil.Who was born 2 weeks before mum in 1909,he born in March and baptized in April at the Parish church of St Peter in Hednesford. My scholar's leaving certificate 1956 Miss Taylor the head teacher i remember here. Remarks, Celia has worked in the senior groups.She is sensable and capable of most things,and we have found her honest and trustworthy. Well i had to be because i spent the last year at school being "borrowed"from class to look after the infants in class one ;D Does anyone else have these now rare baptism cards.

I'm surprised that you have two. Were they for different "types" of church/chapel?

I have in my possession a baptism card for my late father-in-law, born May 1921 and baptised at St Lukes Church, Miles Platting, Manchester on 1st June 1921. I also have my husband's baptism card from St Mary's Church in Droylsden, Lancashire dated 20 July 1947 when he was 24 days old. Then I have his Cradle Roll card dated 28 April 1954 from St Martin's Church in Droylsden. As well as these I have baptism cards for my 4 children who were baptised between 1968 and 1978. Fascinating pieces of history (as are the school reports I have for my father-in-law)

I have an array of cards out of my Gran's "treasure box" -
(gran died 1953) -baptism cards, funeral cards, funeral ribbons (white silk bookmarks with black printing on them-giving details of deceased person), school leaving certificates -one is from 1924 and is written like a job reference), confirmation certificates, - along with a little leather bag holding a prayer book and hymn book - the books contain several small cards hand cross stitched, with various dates of births, baptisms etc.
All priceless to me

A Baptism card which provides a record of the occasion is still given in the Church of England, and a legal certificate of baptism may be issued on request, for which there is a fee.

That's fantastic and I guess would be priceless to anyone. The nearest I got is looking after some grave papers and funerals bills for my mother-in-law's parents. My family documents must've gone somwehere else. I left the north-east 40 years ago but don't recall ever having seen anything like that. I'm sure you'll take good care of you treasures.

The second card isn't like the first baptism card with godparents on.So and it doesn't say Baptism or give the church.So maybe it isn't one. It's the same date as the chester baptism but a year later.Maybe thats a mistake but i cant see mum letting that stand.I remember going to the church sunday school though.Sadly like a lot of Church's it is now gone.

What wonderful things to have. I don't have anything like that and honestly don't even know if we have anything like that here in the states, but I have a collection of funeral cards, the oldest dating to 1870. I think somewhere, someone's attic must have a cache, just waiting for me to find. :P

I don't think we have funeral cards,I have attended four funerals in my family.I have never seen one,i have heard of them though. Do they give any useful information besides the Date and year of death. I have always been curious :)

Just a quick query-you said in the post your dad was born 1909, but you avatar (great pic by the way :D) says 1901. I just thought I'd point it out in case it's an error on your avatar you hadn't spotted. :)

I've got mine around here somewhere, but no-one else's. I did also have one for my confirmation, but the nasty family history fairies who don't want me doing this all day stole it so I don't have it any more. :(

They don't necessarily give much information, but they have given me some dates of death and/or burial and where buried for relatives that I didn't have, the really old ones especially.
