Looking for any information on Allan McEachern, he was the youngest of 5 children, the others being Donald, Catherine, Mary and Hector for which i have knowledge of mostly up to the present day. Allan is registered on the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census reports then disappears, his parents where Arch and Christina McEachern ( Christinas maiden name was also McEachern ) have looked on S.P. for his birth and possible death certs but nothing, the rest of the children where registered, in the 1861 census the family where living in Torrans, Kilfinichen, Isle of Mull, I have left messages on Mull Genealogy before now and also Talking Scot today. Thanks.

Was he married on the last census? Did he have any children? Have you checked the surrounding islands for him? Often people moved among the islands
Is it possible that he emmigrated to the Americas or Australia? A quick check of Family search 1881 turns up one Allan McEachern of a suitable age in Ontario, Canada. He seems to have married there after 1870, based on his wife and childrens' ages.

It is possible that he emigrated, the last census report I have of him is 1861 aged 20, still single living with his parents, Arch and Christina. Is there a site that will give me a list of ships that left with people from the Mull area to either the Americas or Australia with passenger lists, I have looked on the Ships lists and HIES with no luck, I will check the surroundind islands again, as new records are added all the time. Thanks.

Could be, a possibility, as he had a brother and sister living in the area at the time, will have a look at this on SP and also 1871/91 and 1901 census reports, the only doubt I have with this Allan is his trade, on the 1861 census for Kilfinichen he is listed as an Agricultural Labourer but you never know.
Thanks for reply.
Donald.

I have this Alan McKechnie/McEachern in my tree also.
In the 1881 census he is aged 40, a deckhand on the No.9 Dredger moored at Anderson Quay, Glasgow. Born Bunessan, Argyll.
In the 1891 census he is aged 55, a crane man on the No.9 Dredger, moored at Gourock. Born Ross of Mull, Argyll.
I think donnie will have this information by now anyway.

Thanks Lodger and Craigspuir, Allan had been put to the back of mind as he had become a little bit of an enigma, the information that Lodger has posted I have had before though sometime ago and unfortunately it does not prove or disprove he is mine but as there is a possibility it is and will be kept, just in case, as for the information Craigspuir has provided, again it may be him or not, there is the added information is that he is living with MacKinnons which are his grandparents maiden names on the female side on both sides of his parents so they maybe relatives, hope that makes sense, the thing with Allan is that although he is the youngest of 5 children he is the only one that I can not find a birth, marriage or death record for him, but anyway, thanks to you both.
