Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help with more information about Sherburn Engine Houses, my 3rd Great Grandparents wedding certificate (7th December 1839) states that they were living there, and that my 3rd Great Grandfather's occupation was a waggonman (his name was John BARKASS).
Do the houses still exist today? Are there any detailed records of who lived there?
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Paul

Hi Mim,
Thank you for that, one of the problems I'm having with finding the location is that there were at least 3 mines in that area with the Sherburn name (Sherburn, Sherburn Hill, and Sherburn House), and I don't know which one of these Sherburn Engine Houses would belong to.
The interest I have is with the "Engine" part of the locations name, as John BARKASS's son Thomas became a Steam Engine Fitter (not a waggonman like his father & Grandfather).
I'm wondering if thats where my father and I get our interest in engineering from.
