I am looking for any information on David Kennedy Hutchison who was born on 19 Dec, 1824 in Kinnoul, Perth, Scotland. His parents were Alexander Hutchison and Janet Clark who were married in St Cuthbert's, Canongate in Edinburgh on 7 May 1816.
He married Grace Adams in Glasgow in 1845 and was a shipwright living in Liverpool in 1857 and I believe he was traveling to New Zealand but as I have his death in Levuka, Fiji in 1867, I had always believed he didn't get there although I believe his wife remarried and died in Karaka, Thames, New Zealand about 1902.
Does anyone have any information on David Kennedy Hutchison or his wife?
Kind regards.
Aye Right
with fingers crossed in Scotland!

Hello Aye Right
Archives in Auckland have a Probate record for a David HUTCHISON:
Place: Lautoka Fiji / Onehunga
Occupation: Shipbuilder
Death Date: 18 Oct 1867
Court: Auckland
Archives Ref: BBAE 1587 151/0
He died intestate, so don’t know how much further information will be in the file.
The only Intestate record I have viewed just contained the date of death and a very brief financial statement.
There are 2 marriages between 1867 and 1902 for a Grace HUTCHISON which could be her:
1871 Folio Ref: 0184
Charles NORMAN
1899 Folio Ref: 4092
George William MASON
Hope this helps.

Hello Aye Right
I came across this old thread this evening. I have a death record for David Kennedy Hutchison's father Alexander. The informant was his son David and the record gives his occupation and where living in England. Do you have the details of this document?
I also Have a story sent to me by a descendant living in New Zealand about how David met his untimely end in Fiji. He also shared a photogarph of David Kennedy Hutchison.

Hi Aye Right
Just read your post & you are talking about my great great grandparents. Have been without a computer for a couple of years so I suppose you have all the info you need.
We went to a family reunion a couple of years ago for the descendants, which was awesome.
Hope to hear from you.

Hi I'm new to roots hat but am looking for D.K.Hutchisons cause of death. I've found record of him fighting inntaranaki wars approx 1866. I suspect he ended up in Fiji on one of his ships that were establishing a trade route for the cotton being transported to NZ. Is this correct. Pls contact me with any info. Kind regards. Rhi

To Rhiannon840 Hi to you David Kennedy and Grace Adams Hutchison were my great great grand parents here in NZ. Their son young David was my great grandfather. David Kennedy and young David Hutchison in tow went around the Pacific chasing after a ship called the Stanley they had built, a dirty rotten scoundrel had taken it out for sea trials without paying for it. They called into Fiji on one of their calls and it is there that David Kennedy Hutchison became gravely ill and died of a suspected twisted bowel. Young David 16 yrs old had to get a ship firstly to Sydney then back to Auckland New Zealand. Sadly it was the end of the business he had built. Hope this helps :)

Yes that would be great to exchange some info! I'm new to this roots site though, and it says I'm not allowed to send private messages, but I'm not sure why. I'm in Australia, but am a kiwi, and all the rest of my family are (mostly) still living in and around the Waikato.

Hi Faera,
Welcome to the Rootschat and the NZ Board. New members need 3 posts before the Private Messages (PM) can be activated. Just post one more time with a smiley or a Hello, then you and Hutchy Baby can exchange messages. You can also send a message even though they are off line (grey tells you off and green on), and they will pick it up when they log on.
Cheers

David Kennedy Hutchison and Grace Adams are my children' s ancestors (my ex-husbands ancestors) and I have been trying to glean the story of The Stanley for many years, having heard it from another relative who does considerable genealogy research. Hopefully can PM someone and compare notes.

I'm a descendant, through David Kennedy Hutchison's daughter Mary. I have two photos I have tried to identify, all I know are they are Hutchison's, would love to know if anyone can tell me their names!! And any info you could throw my way Id appreciate too :)
I found an exert photocopied from a book in my mums family records about David Kennedy Hutchison - diary's and hand written letters published and a bit of info, its about 20 pages copied, but no reference to where she got it from, or what the book was titled.
Any help greatly appreciated
