Title: Porthywaen and Llanyblodwel School Logs.
Post by: eric on Sunday 13 May 07 16:28 BST (UK)
Both the above schools are in the parish of Llanyblodwel and now closed since many years.
My  great grandparents and grandparents, [the male and female side] prior to 1893 were for many years teacher at both schools. Can anyone please tell me where the School Logs are held and where may I view them?
Very many many thanks for any help I may receive, Eric.

Hello Eric

Think you should telephone the National Library of Wales for this one!  The staff are very helpful, and I'm sure someone will be able to guide you in the right direction.

Hello Eric

I hope you enjoyed your holiday, and, no, I haven't been to Pembrokeshire.

I am trying to find out more about the school at Llanyblodwel. If you have any information you can share I would be most grateful. I have a letter in my possession written by my great uncle Matthew Roberts from the schoolhouse in 1860. In the 1861 census he is listed as the schoolmaster, the sub postmaster and (I think) parish clerk and (possibly) telegraphy clerk. The letter is a very poignant one, telling of the death of his wife, Mary Anne, in childbirth. I am struggling to find out more about Matthew and Mary Anne for, even though I have more letters, there is little detail.

Not much in the catalogues:

http://archives.shropshire.gov.uk/dserve.exe?dsqIni=Dserve.ini&dsqApp=Archive&dsqCmd=Show.tcl&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqPos=3&dsqSearch=(((text)='Llanyblodwel')AND((text)='school'))

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/nra/searches/subjectView.asp?ID=O116756

I would have though any records would be at Shrop. Archives, but they could be at Powys or NLW.
