Hi
I'm still having trouble tracing the Bowden family.
Could someone please check 1901 for William Bowden b 1899 Southwark/Newington/Bermondsey and tell me who he is living with? I can see 2 posible entries.
Thanks

Many thanks indeed.
The only possible one of those is the third. The dates all match with the children I know of, and Appleton is the maiden name of his mother. BUT both the James should be Joseph, Annie should be Alfred, Arthur should be Alice and Emily should be Sarah (and I don't have the Emily daughter). Apart from that it's an exact match!! I've scoured 1901 under Bow* and Row* in case of problems reading writing but I just cannot find an exact match.
Regards
Dave

Thanks, but he should have a father Joseph, mother Sarah and siblings Alice Alma, Joseph and Alfred Thomas - but they are just not there! Parents were married Dec 1888 St Saviours. All I can think is the names have been transcribed so badly that they are impossible to find even with wildcards.

what was Joseph's occupation shown as on the 1888 marriage ?
-
On Alfred's bc he is shown as Purse Maker. In 1891 census he is a pocket book maker and the fmaily are at 12 Rodney Rd, Newington.

Hello, Dave,
A bit of a long shot, but have you considered the possibility that James ( wife Emily) could be related to Joseph ( wife Sarah) ? This could account for a Samuel Appleton living with James & Emily as as boarder, not a relative ie., brother in law. You know Joseph's wife Sarah's maiden name was Appleton, so is Samuel related to her in some way.
Sarah E.Appleton was a servant in the 1881 census St Paul, Deptford born 1868, Holloway.
In the 1871 census she is with her parents..
1871 census
RG10/305 folio 86 page 10
2, Hercules Pl, Upper Holloway, Islington
Moses Appleton age 28 Carman b Essex, Colchester
Mary Ann wife age 26 b BEDS looks like Cedpham ?
Thomas son age 4 b Islington

Sorry,, Dave , hit the wrong button, sent it off unfinished so here is the rest of it.
Interesting that Sarah E's mother was born in Beds, coincidence or connection with Samuel. ?
There was a James Bowden born 16th Nov 1869, bapt 3rd Dec 1869 St Pancras Old Church, only mother shown, Caroline, no father & marriage for him>
James Bowden = Emily Hearn
Sept. ¼ 1889 Paddington 1a 138
All something for you to think over, I have probabaly confused the issue more than helping.
