Hello,
Is anyone researching Phillips in Portsea? I am particularly interested in James Phillips chr 1791 and his wife, Mary Edwards chr 1793 and their children.

Hello Ian,
Thank you for that. The first one definitely looks like them but I am not sure of the 1861. James' wife seems too young and I don't have information at the moment that he married twice.
Son Robert married Jane Saunders and dau Charlotte seems to have married James' brother, James Saunders, some time before 1851 but I cannot find a marriage. I have found James and Charlotte in 1851 with a son James. The Saunders are my family and I am trying to find out more about the Phillips' in case there was another marriage.
Thank you for your interest and help.
Regards

Hi Vicki,
They don't appear to be related to any of the Phillips' you listed but I'm related to a Robert Phillips (b 1851 in Pembroke Dock) who moved to Portsea in the 1870's and married a Frances Mary Robinson there in 1877. They had at least 5 children born in Portsea between 1878 and 1886 that went on to have various Phillips families. Might be a tie-in at some point.
Cheers,
Martin

Hello Oran,
Yes, thank you, I did see the correspondence when I was searching Rootschat, but I cannot see anything on it that links with my Phillips of Portsea.
My Robert Phillips was bap 1827 Portsea, son of James and Mary. In 1846 he marr Jane Saunders in Portsea.
In 1851 he is with her and 3 children, Robert 4, Jane 2, Maria 1; 2 lodgers; and a Caroline Phillips 18 year old visitor. (Robert's sister)
I don't have the 1861 or 1871 for them but I think that the death registration in 1873 at Portsea is my Robert. Jane I have lost altogether, so she may have remarried.
Robert Phillip's sister, Charlotte chr 1816 marr Jane's brother, James Cherrett Saunders, but I cannot find the marriage. Her name is on some of the children's births, and she was present as wife at the death of James C Saunders in 1871 Deptford. She died in 1897 age 81. In 1881 she is living with her grandaughter, Charlotte Dawson, in Greenwich. Where is the marriage???
James Phillips and Mary (Edwards) had another 7 children
Mary 1809
Mary Ann 1814
Elizabeth 1818
William Henry 1822
George 1826
Emma Jane 1832
Caroline Amelia 1834
but I haven't any info on them other than baptisms and what is above.
Thank you for your interest. Other people's input stops me from going up the wall.
Yours
Vicwinann
