I've been trying desperately to find the following in 1901:
BOWDEN - should be Joseph b 1889, Alfred b 1894, Alice Alma b 1896 and William Henry b 1899. Father should be a Joseph too. Mother might be Sarah. We're sure the children are registered born at St Saviours so ought to be in the Southwark/Camberwell area.
Many thanks

Sorry, Dave, can find nothing in the 1901 census for the Bowden name or variations, either in Ancestry or the official ONS census but have found the 1891.
1891 census
Rg12/345 folio 101 page 13
12, Rodney Rd Newington
Joseph Bowden age 25 Pocket Book maker b Newington
Sarah E. wife age 25 b Holloway
Joseph son age 1 b Surrey
I checked this address in the 1901 census
RG13/613 folio 15
No Borden family there.
Hope this helps,
Meliora

That's great - I'm sure that's the right family. I've looked before in 1901 without success. All I can think is that there's some really bad transcription work that has changed the surname into something completely different.
Roll on the 1911 census!
Many thanks

Apparently Rodney Road rings a bell with my wife's ggmother who is the oldest family member we have. When you checked it in 1901 did you check all the houses in that road (there are only 15 listed and there is no number 12)?
Many thanks

hello, Dave
My aplopgies, I gave the wrong piece no for Rodney Rd, Newington in the 1901 census,
I have just checked & it should be
RG13/374
houses nos 8 - 96 appear in folios 42 -47
I checked no 12 but there are no Bowens living there.
Rodney is a very long road & there is a note in the address index saying that many odd nos have been demolished.
