Title: John Robert Forster and family, Beamish
Post by: Mercel on Tuesday 01 May 07 19:42 BST (UK)
I am really struggling to find any information on my grandads family. He was John Robert Forster pictured to the left. He was born in 1892 and died in 1914, six months after my dad was born. He had three brothers, Thomas born 1894, Frederick 1897 and Alfred in 1899. I have found them in the 1901 cnesus, Alf was 2, Fred was 4 , John R was 9 and Thomas was 6, they were living in Victoria Road, Gateshead with father Thomas and mother Mary. I do not know what happened to them after this and where I should start looking, can anyone help.
Best wishes Mercel >:(

hi, thanks for replying, none of the names you mention seem to fit in with the tree I have, however thats not to say there isnt a connection, I have little or no details of my grandads dad and the rest of the family. Forster is a hard name to search in the north east  :-\

Thank you anyway and good luck in your own research

Do you have access to 1911 census?

I can see a John Robert Forster of your grandfather's age and place of birth but due to copyright restrictions cannot give full details.

However, from the free 1911 search I can say that he is living in the Sunderland area.

Yes thank you I have got details from him working in South Hylton Paper Mill in 1911, he married my nana in 1913 the same year my dad was born. Unfortunately he died of pneumonia in 1916 so my dad had no recollection of any of his uncles or grandfather. Its the period from birth that I am trying to trace, he was only 22 when he died. Would love to find out about his brothers, Alfred, Frederick and Thomas who were all born in Beamish.  :)
Thank you for taking the trouble to search 1911 census though that was very kind of you.

Hi,
Thomas Forster, the father, is lodging with a Swinburne family at Beamish in 1891.

His future wife, Mary Ellen Thompson, is with her Heatherington grandparents a Beamish Forge in 1891.

It looks as if Mary Ellen died in 1902 and it may also be that Thomas died before 1911 as it looks as if the children are with various relatives in 1911. Apart from John Robert, who you already know about, I can see Alfred with a relative in 1911.

Let me know if you need the 1891 references and Mary Ellen's death.
