Can someone advise me on how to find out how many children my GG Grandparents had ?
They were Bernard McGeown and Mary Thompson married 14 Oct 1893 at Belfast Roman Catholic Church, Belfast urban 6 parish.
I know they were living at 66 Anderson St between 1901 and 1906 as Bernard is shown as head of house on the 'A street' index and my Great Grandfather Anthony was born in June 1906, they possibly lived there a lot longer or at least within the area.
I know there was other siblings but i have no names, family story tell of a brother Arthur who lost his arm at Dunkirk.
There doesn't appear to be any online index for Ireland and the census is also not available online, is there some other way to find my Great grandfathers siblings ???
I would appreciate any suggestions, Thank you
Debbie

Since you know their address in 1901, it should be a simple matter for someone to look up the 1901 Census for you. It would be worthwhile checking the 1911 Census as well, since they lived there as late as 1906 - but don't count on finding them in 1911.
Still, the 1901 Census should give you 6 or so siblings for a child born of an 1893 marriage.

Hiya Debbie,
I wasn't certain of the location of Anderson Street so checked the directory ... it ran from 70, Short Strand to Moira Street in the Pottinger ward of Belfast. Where's Urban 6 Parish? I know churches by names and there were several Roman Catholic ones within a reasonable distance to where your ancestors lived.

Hi Debbie,
I've just discovered your message. Bernard McGeown was my grandfather.
His son joseph mcgeown, was my father, here in Ardoyne, Belfast.
I remember Anthony (I think), Nelly, accompanied with a boy and girl at our
house when I was very smal.
Hope this is a start of sharing our ancestry
Regards
Jeffrey McGeown :D

Hi Debbie,
Had hoped I would have heard from you by now.
You mention Arthur having lost his arm at Dunkirk.
It was my father, Joe, Arthur's brother; lost it in First World War.
My father was also Anthony's brother.
Bernard McGeown was my father's dad; my grandfather.
Moved to Scotland from east Belfast quite some time ago.
Maybe better luck this time.

Hi Jeffrey,
How are you and Peggy keeping. It's been 45 years since I last seen you or Peggy. I last talked to you and Artie
the night prior to my Father's passing. Hope you and your family are keeping well.
Regards,
Your nephew Patrick.

Hello Patrick,
I haven't looked at this Forum in a while.
How are you and all the family.
Peggy is okay, getting old of course, like myself.
I've used this site before because I've been trying to get together our ancestry.
I've had some luck, but a lot of gaps.
Especially in my own case of being adopted.
Peggy doesn't remember much now, and there's no one else to ask.
I asked your father once about my berth mother, but really he didn't want to talk about it.
So I've very little to go on.
Hope to here from you soon.
It would be good to get your email address.
Bye
Jeffrey

I suggest you try this website for various spellings of your name:
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm?fuseaction=Go.&UserID=
A lot of names have variants, depending on what the census taker 'heard', as not all folks were literate at the time. (I've found people with three different spellings in my own line.) Then check the 1911 census online for those spellings:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
Good luck.
