Dear Rootschatters, trying to fill in some blanks on this family please.
Known information:-
Sarah ROLLINGS born abt 1854 married 1868 Armidale NSW to James BEARD born 1843 Linton, Cambridgeshire, England. Sarah's parents names not known - other researchers think it was Thomas CONSTABLE (stepparent) and Sarah ROLLINGS (Senior). James' parents were: William BEARD b 1815 Linton, Cambridgeshire, England and Sarah RIDGEWELL born 1813 Histon, Cambridgeshire, England.
James BEARD & Sarah ROLLINGS had 10 known children:-
1. unnamed female BEARD 1868~1868
2. Maria BEARD 1869 Armidale
3. Emily BEARD 1871 Warialda
4. Charlotte BEARD 1873 Warialda
5. Frederick BEARD 1876 Warialda
6. Joseph BEARD 1878~1880 Warialda
7. Annie BEARD 1881 Warialda
8. James W. BEARD 1884 Warialda
9. Una Bell BEARD (also known as Younerbell BEARD) 1887 Warialda
married 1906 Inverell NSW John (Jack) MOST** born 1874 Inverell.
10. Edith E. BEARD 1888 Warialda married 1913 Ashfield NSW Sydney A. JOHNSON.
**The MOSTs from Hessen Germany were my ancestors.
Questions:
Can anyone please find parents names of Sarah ROLLINGS? And when/where was she born?
Thanks in advance,
Alison.

Hi Alison
Do you know where either Sarah was born? In Oz or England?
I've had a quick look on the NSW BMD indexes and found the marriages of 2 POSSIBLE relatives of Sarah Jnr:
Ruth Rollings m Obadiah FAWYER in Armidale in 1862 and
Mary Elizabeth Rollings m James ROBERTS in Armidale in 1870.
Could they be siblings??
Do you know where & when James & Sarah Jnr died?
Annie

Ally - will be interested in what you find!
I think we have corresponded on these folks before - if it turns out what others suspect is true, then she is my relative and you and are cousins!
I'll try doing a bit of digging too!

Hi Allycat
Do you have the marriage certificate of Sarah ROLLINGS & James BEARD?
I note in the indexes there was a marriage in the same year 1868 of Mary Ann BEARD & Thomas ROLLINGS in Armidale. 1536/1868. Sarah's brother maybe.
I also note there is a Sarah M BEARD dieing in Ashford Inverell 1934 aged 85 Father listed as Thomas.
Another Sarah A BEARD died in Inverell in 1916 parents: William & Sarah A
You have given Sarah's approximate DOB as 1854, this would have made her 14 at time of marriage. She would have needed parental permission to marry under the age.
Regards
Genni

I have an 1873 NSW marriage certificate which contains very little, but it does give the name of the father of the bride giving permission as she was only 17.

James BEARD & Sarah ROLLINGS had 10 known children:-
4. Charlotte BEARD 1873 Warialda
10. Edith E. BEARD 1888 Warialda married 1913 Ashfield NSW Sydney A. JOHNSON.
A Charlotte BEARD married William HOWE in Inverell in 1895.
Edith E Beard born 1888 was born in Molong
Two more children:
Joseph H BEARD born Inverell 1890 (birth gives parents as James W & Sarah M)
Elizabeth BEARD born Inverell 1894
Elizabeth Sarah BEARD married Samuel COX 1915 in Inverell
Elizabeth COX died 1964 Armidale Parents: James William & Sarah Morris
James William BEARD died 1958 Inverell Parents: James William & Sarah Morris
Joseph Henry BEARD died 1948 Gunnedah Parents: James William & Sarah Morris
So, it would appear the children believe she had the middle name of Morris.

Dear Ladies, Apologies for delay in getting back to you all. Other half was hogging the PC.
Annie, I don't know where Sarah Junior or even Senior was born. Not even sure about the born 1845 bit as this hasn't been confirmed. Year provided by another researcher. NSW bdms online have heaps of BEARDs and ROLLINGs. It's a headache trying to sort them out.
Jenn, I think you've found a connection family. Shall probably know more later on down the track.
KazzaQld, Hello there. I don't recall corresponding with you previously. I'm related to the MOST family from Hessen Germany ... see marriage of 9th child of James BEARD and Sarah ROLLINGS. Watch this space.
Trish, thanks for your input.
Gennie, More often than not I have seen so many times siblings of one family married siblings of another. It's a good possibility that you have found connections also.
Thank you all for your help and assistance, it is greatly appreciated. When I catch up with my other researcher, we may sort this out yet. I've told her about my posting at rootschat.
I shall close now, thanks again.

I am a descendant of Moses Rollings & Sarah Blinco and have today solved your problem. The Rollings son, Thomas Blinco Rollings & his wife Maryann Hatley migrated form Swaffham Prior, CAM to NSW in 1860 with their unmarried children and 2 of their married children John & Sarah. Sarah married Thomas Constable 6 Nov 1852. However Sarah had had a child Sarah abt 1849 born Chesterfield CAM. This child is listed as a grandchild on the 1851 census at Swaffham Prior. I have a website www.johnnicholsfh.com which should explain the Cambridgeshire postion. Rollings is spelt Rowlings on my website. I have only discovered the NSW migration in the last week and am quickly filling in details throgh the NSW BDM index and on line cemetery transcriptions.

Johnnic, This is absolutely fantastic news. I shall have an in-depth look at your tree tomorrow. Alison.
-
Hi cuz John,
Well done - will be interested to see the results of your findings!
Ally does this make us cousins too? Re-reading your messages I think not? But at least we have cousins in common, for sure!
Cheers
Karen.

Dear Karen, I've been helping a young lady named Aine Beard with the BEARD part of the tree. She was a GR member but I think her membership has lapsed.
There's so many BEARDs also that it is a hard name to research. My connection is to the MERRY and MOST family, they were my ancestors. There are a few BEARDs from her line that married into my MERRY and MOST family. My bunch are listed in Heather Rohrer's family tree online - Google Roads family of Buckinghamshire and you will see a rootsweb world connect tree - one place name study etc. Massive.

Hello I'm new to rootschat and I noticed your post. I have Beard and Rollings in my tree from Warialda and Inverell NSW Can someone please help me? My connection is Mary Ann Beard married a Thomas Rollings nsw thanks
-
Dear Dibbley, Hi and a big welcome to RootsChat. I have seen many instances in my own family tree of sisters from one family marrying brothers from another family. Perhaps this is the case in this instance.
A perusal of the NSW BDM indexes online (free) reveals a marriage in 1868 registration no. 1536 between groom Thomas ROLLINGS and bride Mary Ann BEARD in Armidale, New South Wales.
You can purchase their Marriage Certificate for $26.00 securely online (look for the gold padlock in your browser).

Good luck,

PS No doubt parts of your family tree will have links with mine.

Hey Dibbley,
I have sent you a PM - too much to share here!
Cheers

We also have an interest in Rollings, Beard and others from around Inverell.
No real break-throughs to add to this discussion as yet but can point out the above (transcription) error in NSW bdm:
Ruth Rollings m Obadiah FAWYER in Armidale in 1862
FAWYER is actually TURNER.
They were married at Manilla, according to our records.
Rootsweb tree here:

cheers,
Geoffrey & Karen nee Turner (3x great-granddaughter of Thomas Blinco Rollings)

One thing eventually leads to another.
James Beard who married Sarah Rollings, is a brother of Frederick Beard who married Mary Ann Glover (the Mary Ann Beard who married Thomas Rollings).
William Beard 1816 and family, including new wife Mary (nee King, I think) were Assisted Immigrants on the "Tantivy" in late 1854, real 2137, 2467
BEARD Frederick 14
BEARD Hannah 4
BEARD James 11
BEARD John 8
BEARD Joseph A 19
BEARD Mary 26
BEARD Ridgwell 13
BEARD William 9

Dear HiltonLee, Thank you very much for taking up a renewed interest in the Beards and Rollings settlers in Inverell/Warialda. Your last post is extremely interesting. I had assumed as much that 1st wife Sarah Rollings must have died before 1851 and that William remarried, I had Mary Ann Glover also.
I'm following closely sons Frederick & James Beard's lines as there are two connections with other families in my tree.
Best wishes.
-
OK so Thomas ROLLINGS b. 1848 - his wife was not born BEARD but was first married to a BEARD? And is actually nee GLOVER.
Thomas was my 1st cousin 5x removed so I am interested in this line!
-
Hi allycat, suspecting you meant to say Sarah RIDGEWELL died bef 1851?
who seems to have died 7 AUG 1853 at Histon, Cambridgeshire.
William must have remarried 8 months later, 27 MAY 1854 at Madingley, Cambridge (IGI) and promptly migrated.
Yes the confusing profusion of inter-family marriages had me head-butting brick walls for a year, 'till a lady (Vera) pointed out the Glover/Beard marriage.
Kazza I think we've been in touch via rootsweb before?, your tree there has been a major source for sorting out. Thomas Rollings1848 is my wife Karen's 2nd great granduncle.
Just now updated rootsweb tree but still working on it
Mary Ann Glover:

thanks for the tidy up krisesjoint

Hi all, I've finally completed a chart which shows the intricate inter-family relationships surrounding Obadiah William TURNER and Ruth ROLLINGS
(http://users.tpg.com.au/mjjj/Genealogy/Charts/TurRol-HilltopBG08-300dpi-600x420s.jpg)
Every person mentioned in this thread is probably in it although I haven't checked.
the background picture is Obadiah's farm "Hilltop" near Bundarra in the 1950's

Wow. I have never seen anything like it! Must have taken a long time to complete.

Only a couple of weeks of great fun arranging everyone, once I'd got enough data and you know how long that can take.
My thanks to all who contributed, knowingly and otherwise :)
