You can search for details of Tasmanian ancestors at the tasmanian archives
http://www.archives.tas.gov.au/nameindexes

There is a convict John Pulford arriving in 1836 who could be your man. He came on a ship from London, unfortunately the Old Bailey records only go to 1834 online so not there at the minute.

There is a record for permission to marry for John Pulford and Emma Fowler, so this seems to be the couple Jenn found. John is listed as being free (if he was a convict his term may have expired). Emma arrived in 1844.

For a very reasonable fee the Tas archives will copy the records for you (or you can visit if in Tasmania & for a smaller fee copy them yourself  :) ) The BDM registers to 1900 are also kept at the archives.

Seven children are listed on the Colonial families data base - the six Jenn listed & also Thomas 1849
There seem to be many grandchildren  ;D Some of the children stayed in Tasmania.

Hi Jenn,

Thanks once again for your hard work.
Two questions:  Was the dates for John's and Emma's children their birth dates or christening dates?

and I can only Find a marriage connection for a William Cummins with a Margaret Rice. I cant find a Catherine Oriely.

PS. Sam Pulford,s Mum is Emma Fowler.

Cheers

S.k.

you have started another thread with this post!!

yes it is their birth dates

yes Emma Fowlers is Samuel Pulford's mother

I can only  give  you  the parents by  the  indexs  and that is what it does say her mothers name is and there  are are number of children deaths  to William Cummins and Catherine Orilley  and a number born in victoria but not catherine  she may not have been registered or born coming here

the marriage of Samuel Pulford and Catherine Cummins was in 1875 reg no 3366
he was born in Tasmania and she in Castlemaine

Hi S.K.!
They are my Great Grandparents. I have a copy of their Marriage Certificate (which on the back lists all their children and their dates of birth), and was taken to visit their home (now occupied by others - I have photographs of it) and a photo of their grave in the Old Cemetery at Yea, Victoria, Australia. I have not been able to trck down any photos of them as yet.

I live in Mooroolbark, Victoria.

Warmest regards
Franklyn

Hello Franklyn and S.K.

John Pulford is also being discussed on the suffolk at rootsweb dot com mailing list right now, and there is a possible baptism, 18th May 1817 at Mendlesham Suffolk England been posted there, John son of William and Ann. There are several possible siblings also there and it seems that Ann's maiden name might have been Stebbing.  There is a William Pulford who married a Ann Stebbings on 3rd November 1802 in IGI Batch M012877. http://tinyurl.com/22qh4g I thought this marriage might be in Mendlesham but the IGI seem to indicate Sudbury. If you were able to get to an LDS centre near you again you might be able to establish whether they are your line and also whether they were of
Mendlesham parish when they married or somewhere else.

Peter

Another Pulford has surfaced---me.My people came from Murrindindi and I was there many times as a youngster to my grand parents property. I am also interested re. any offspring of Samuel's as I suspect my grandfather to be one such.

Franklyn has been in touch and it turns out he is my cousin--long lost (70 years!) Samuel, son of convict John, was my grandfathers(William ) father. William's son Herbert was my dad. MP.

I am also a decendant of John Pulford and Emma Fowler.  My Grandmother was Mary Maude Pulford daughter of Samuel and Catherine (Cummins) Pulford.

Would be happy to hear from other decendants.

Hi Sue,

Thank you for your reply.   Franklin also has been in touched but I have lost his details when I bought a new computer any assistance re the family would be helpful.   I know Catherine Cummins nee O'Reilly had been previously married to a man named Brindley, sadly he and several sons past away leaving only a daughter Mary.

Hi Broz,
To get the best out of a Rchat search you need to tell all you know about your request. It is surprising where small details can lead :)

Suggestions.

How do you know about the previous marriage?

What exactly is your source and what dates and details do you have?

When and where did the BRINDLEY death occur?

What more do you know of the surviving MARY?
