Post by: janmoore on Monday 23 April 07 00:00 BST (UK)
Hello again

I have found a young lady named Elizabeth Hindhaugh in Widdrington but I can't work the place name that goes with it.

Could sks please see if they can do any better?

It's HO107/0836/F8/P10.

Jan,

I cannot read the word well enough, but with reference to later censuses (Enumerators descriptions of census districts) and maps and trade directories etc ( from site communities.northumberland,gov.uk ) the place/community lay due south of Widdrington village and was called...

Houndylee,
Hundalee
Houndalee
etc and even
Under Lees

Your page ref did not work for me.... I think it need a "book" number... 13

Jan,

I think it's Druridge, which lies just east of Widdrington.

Hi Jennifer and Michael

Thanks for your attempts! And yes, I forgot the number 13 - sorry, Michael!

Although it's hard to read, I'm more inclined to go with Druridge - I just can't make that first letter into 'H' and certainly not 'U'.

I've just tried to find some of the same people in '51 and '61 but it seems to have been absorbed as Widdrington.

Well, at least I found Elizabeth!

Thanks.

After you ladies ganging up on my I had to have another look !

I was on wrong page !

Yes... Druridge on pages 9-11,

My Underlee/Hunderlee was on pages 13-15.

Good map, (Greenwood's 1828, on site communities.northumberland.gov.uk  , under
>Widdrington>Plans )
shows a good picture of the places featured on C1841 pages 1-18)

On C1901 the place was called Houndalee. Today there is a Houndalee Farm.

Pity none of your targets lived there !
